detachable battery does not charge. White light, then amber, then off.

I bought three T480 laptops from an auction.

I noticed that when I plug in a charger (USB cable C) into one of them, I see this pattern:
1. The battery LED will be off for about one or two seconds,
2. and then the white LED will be on for about three seconds,
3. and then the LED will be off for about 2 seconds,
4. and then the orange (amber) LED will be on for about three seconds,
5. and then the LED will be off and stay off.

Let’s call the above pair “Laptop A” and “battery A”.

I get all this even while the laptop is off (I haven’t pressed the power button during this entire duration).

When I turn on the computer and boot into my Linux Mint desktop, the info panel for the batteries (both Battery A and the internal battery) shows that one battery is at 0% and the other is at 100%. I’m guessing that the 100% battery is the built-in battery and the 0% battery is Battery A.

Using the same laptop (Laptop A), but switching to another battery (Battery B), I do not get this issue.

But when I use the same battery (Battery A) with a different laptop (Laptop B), I get the same pattern.

If I recall, when Battey A is plugged into the laptop, my desktop (I use LInux Mint) shows that one battery is at 0% and the other is at 100%. I’m guessing that the 100% battery is the built-in battery and the 0% battery is Battery A.

I am concluding that there is a problem with the battery (Battery A).

Did I come to the right conclusion?
Can I fix the battery?

Have you tried charging battery A in any/all of your T480 machines?
If no success anywhere, then battery A is dead.

I've tried charging Battery A in all three laptops and it gives the same lighting pattern.
