Using the display and keyboard from a dead T460s?

#1 Post by Gord K. » Sat Feb 10, 2024 12:10 pm

I have a T460s that is dead. I asked some questions about it on this form about a year ago - it wouldn't power up and I tried the remedies people suggested. Even though someone gave me the link to the schematics, my eyesight is not good enough for me to try to troubleshoot it so I finally took it to a repair shop and they determined that the motherboard was toast. I have replaced that laptop but I am wondering if it would be feasible to somehow use the keyboard and display from the dead one in conjunction with a Mac Mini. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts.

When reusing a laptop LCD, the first thing you need is information: what's the exact brand/model of the LCD panel you have, and what are its characteristics resolution (1366x768, 1920x1080, etc.) , interface type (LVDS vs eDP), connector type (usually 30 vs 40 pin).

You may find the LCD's datasheet with a web search, then add "LCD controller board" to your web query. Hopefully you'll find a controller board that will work with your screen.

With regards to converting a laptop keyboard to USB, this is one resource I've found: https://github.com/thedalles77/USB_Lapt ... Controller
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
