X230T Keyboard trackpad button issue replacement?

#1 Post by blink » Mon Nov 06, 2023 8:29 am

Hi,
i have an X230T & the scroll & right click buttons dont seem to work.
What are my options to get them working again Please.
I have removed them to have a look & cant see anything that looks out of the ordinary.
I have a standard x230 but the keyboard has different fitting buttons.
tablet button https://ibb.co/wLyqL1T
non tablet button https://ibb.co/mGWXh4Z

I guess i could replace the keyboard but would rather not.

Any other way to get them working?

If it needed replacing Is it standard or a different one for the tablet version.
Its one with a backlight so may not be easy to find an original at a decent price.
Did all the X230Ts come with backlit KBs or are some regular?

If so any idea what fru/part no i would need.

Could i use any x230 T230 keyboard.

Thanks for your help

X230T (tablet), T430 and T530 use the same keyboards (FRU beginning with 04Wxxxx).
X230 (standard) and T430S (slim) also share keyboards between them, but use different FRU numbers (beginning with 04Xxxxx) from the first group.
04X and 04W supposedly fit in all of the above, according to all the "for sale" adverts.

However, there are different manufacturers (Chicony, LiteOn, Sunrex, Primax), who use different parts and mountings, as shown in your pictures.
You'll need to take the KB out, to get your exact FRU and then you may find matching parts.
Check the parts pictures e.g. here: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/272553203260
And of course there are the many KB-layouts like US, UK, French, German, etc.

If all 04X and 04W indeed fit, I have a 6-row 04X1240/0C01923 (Chicony, US-ANSI layout, backlit) keyboard for sale.
From an X230, in perfect working order, like new!
Price: €25 + shipping.
If interested, I'm in Ireland, so if you have a friend in one of the NI-bordering counties, I can ship there to save you import-duty.

Many Thanks for the reply & very helpful info its much appreciated.

Im going to try the standard x230 keyboard to see if it fits.

If it does i will consider my options. Im going to sell the machine as i dont really use it so dont want to spend too much.
Your offer of a backlit kB is really a very good one many thanks. I would definitely take it if i was keeping it. However as selling not sure, also Im back in England at the moment so would have to deal with import charges.
Do you know if some X230Ts came as stock without the backlit keyboard.
I had another one very briefly & i dont think it did?
It was a low power cpu & very slow so i got rid of it straight away.

Thanks again

From xx30 series onward, any Thinkpad can come standard with backlit or non-backlit KB.
