Standard memory in W530

#1 Post by indicium » Fri Apr 25, 2014 1:06 pm

My W530 came with an Elpida 1x8 GB PC-12800 1600 CL 11 SO-DIMM. Should I keep it and just add 3 more sticks or ditch it and put in 4 matching ones? Right now I'm looking at Corsair Vengeance.
Also, how's PNY memory, its on sale this week at Fry's for $140.

So, I picked up 16 GB Crucial from Microcenter today on sale at Microcenter for $140 versus $200 for Corsair Vengeance. I have Crucial in my T410 and have had good luck with it. I haven't put the Elpida stick back in yet but may do so and then just add one me stick of Crucial.

Crucial makes some good stuff and good RAM. IMO, anything is better than Corsair.

Crucial is just a fancy name for Micron, a well-known mass-producer of RAM.

I usually prefer to install 4 identical SODIMMs. But when matching different SODIMMs, it will always run on the slowest available speed or timing.

For RAM I would usually go with Crucial, Corsair or Kingston. But I don't think the brand really mathers.

I have Crucial Ballistix Sport PC3-14900 (2x8GB)

I bought both every SODIMM stick individually, because if one of them is broken, you only have to send one, and not all of them.

I'm picking up another 16 GB of Crucial next week and giving the Elpida to my sister, she has a W520 and memory speed and timing don't mean as much to her. The Elpida along with a 1x 8 stick I bought to experiment with my T410 (didn't work) will bring her system up to 24 GB.
