Bluetooth on W530

#1 Post by indicium » Fri Aug 01, 2014 1:22 pm

My new W530 doesn't have Bluetooth on it. Is it a separate component or a part of some other device? On earlier Thinkpads, it was part of the modem. I don't use Bluetooth much but would like to still have it available. Does anyone have the FRU for it.

I can only call them the stupid eejits at Lenovo, who had to come out with separate parts lists for every non-Thinkpad since 2012.
These include T430/T530/W430/W530/X230 and newer (but definitely not better).
Have fun with those crappy lists, which another Lenovo eejit has named fruboms. WTF  ...

The bluetooth radio (FRU 60Y3303) plugs into the motherboard under the very front of the palmrest to the right of the ultranav with one screw holding it down.

Probably not an expensive part and if you are familiar with a screwdriver it could take 15 minutes to add.

Thanks to Brad and RealBlackStuff for the info. I got a really good deal on a W530, but found out this morning that it didn't have Bluetooth or a backlit keyboard, otherwise its great.

Brad,

Is the System Board under the Magnesium Frame and do I have to remove it or can I see the socket after I remove the palmrest? I can't tell by looking at the HMM.

Instructions say:
1120 Bluetooth daughter card
For access, remove these FRUs in order:
• “1010 Battery pack” on page 68
• “1030 Memory module slot cover” on page 70
• “1060 Keyboard” on page 74
• “1100 ExpressCard blank bezel or ExpressCard” on page 84

Once you remove keyboard/palmrest/Expresscard bezel, you can see/access the BT-connector.

Like RBS says. After the palmrest is removed there it is.

so the bluetooth daughter card (FRU 60Y3303) cost me like $20 shipped from china.

What are my options here? I have a free mpcie slot (for the wwan) can I just plug in a mpcie bluetooth card in there or is the bios whitelist going to stop me?

The Bluetooth Daughter Card goes under the palmrest close to the Express Card Slot. mPCIE slot is for the WWAN or mSata drive. Download the Hardware Maintenance Manual from Lenovo Support and you will see where it goes. The HMM is listed under the T-Series and covers both the T530 & W530.
