W530 - WiFi module upgrade for 802.11AC / AX ?

#1 Post by ac427 » Mon Mar 18, 2024 6:58 am

Is there a module and instructions on the replacement of the standard Intel Adavanced N 6205 WiFi module, so that 802.11AC and AX bandwith can be acheived?

Apply 1vyrain (to remove wifi-whitelist) and install the mini-PCIe AX3000 (version of AX200) wifi card.

Thanks very much.

I know i should upgrade but i had problems with the video card driver with Windows 10. Are there Windows 7 drivers available for the AX3000?

I noticed there is an AXE3000 available with WiFi 6e support. Has that been tried also?

Ps. What is meant by EC, something to do with battery support?

EC --> embedded controller. This is a hardware component in the system board, and handles low-level stuff like the keyboard and battery (one of the EC firmware mods removes the lock that prevents X220/T420/T520/W520 batteries from charging in the X230/T430/T530/W530).

I'm surprised you're having a video card driver issue with Windows 10. Most GPU drivers for Win 8 should work on Windows 10.

AFAIK the AX3000 is dual-band wifi-6 and AXE3000 is tri-band wifi-6e.
Please note: these cards (as well as AX200/AX210) run ONLY on W10/W11/Linux!
No drivers for W7 found, even after 4 years trying!
Look at this: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/reque ... win7/35111

hi guys, new member just got given a near new 540 -which was a old corporate machine left in the cupboard and basically brand new!!! they was throwing away old machines and i asked if i can have it to the IT guy:D

Anyway i wanted to ask is the AX3000 Mini PCIe WiFi Card WiFi 6, the best wifi card i can get? also is there a guide how i can whitelist this card as reading on here the w540 by default needs to be fudged to accept another wifi card?

Thanks all, lovely to see such a community :thumbs-UP:

At this time w540 needs a hardware flasher to physically remove the whitelist, and there is some disassembly required.
