WWAN card not detected

#1 Post by syssifus » Sat Apr 20, 2024 2:19 pm

Hey there,
I recently got myself a W530 and also decided that it was a good idea to fit it with a 4G modem (and also because the hardware allows for it :) ). I ended up purchasing a Quectel EC25, but after installing it and 1vyrain I ran into an issue: The modem is not being detected whatsoever. I checked not only the hardware diagnostics tool but also lsusb and even reset the bios to the optimized defaults, but no dice. I checked if the WWAN slot and card were even working and installed a WPAN card into the WWAN slot of the Thinkpad, and installed the WWAN card into the Dell studio 1737 which served as the donor for the WPAN card and both cards were detected in the other device respectively.
My modem also doesn't seem to have any non-standard pinout: https://forums.quectel.com/uploads/shor ... pJa2kk.pdf
Since all my testing so far didn't discover the reason for this problem I'm just confused and ultimately out of ideas.
Any idea what could be the problem?
Thanks!

why do you care about my email address? I don't think I posted any spam here. (Also who would be so stupid to use an email address that marks them as a spammer right away?!). Fine, I did add my city too, even though I wanted to avoid that part -_-

(I really did expect somebody to recognize this problem when I saw the activity on this post, but all I'm getting is stuff regarding this account :P)

sorry, but the location thing helps sort out spammers, your email address caused me to wonder if any forum notifications would get through, which i see at least this one did get through..
thanks

A quick "Quectel EC25 in lenovo w430" search on Google shows that those Quectel thingies need a quack to fix them.
Loads of faulty ones, as e.g. seen here.

Mine is definitely not defective as it's been tested by the seller. I had another chat with the 1vyrain developer and it turns out that the EC25 is more pin compatible than some other units but still has a few pins that just do not work.
I taped over these and it's being recognized now: https://forums.quectel.com/uploads/defa ... 660ae0.png
I don't know if this will cause things to not work but I'll have to see
