Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen 4 SSD compatibility

#1 Post by bluewaterrocket » Sun Dec 03, 2023 8:24 pm

I own a 4 year old X1 Gen4 Yoga 20SA0002US with a 1TB SSD. USB-C charging port is bad, as well as a dying battery. Looking to buy a used equivalent model with an i7 processor and swap out my current SSD into a newly acquired (used) X1 Yoga. Curious to know:

- Will my 1TB SSD only be compatible with any Gen4 X1 Yogas?
- Which machine types within the Gen4 series should have compatible SSD sockets?
- Will an equivalent i7 based Gen4 model with a smaller (or larger) SSD accomodate my 1TB SSD?

Any other tips appreciated. Thanks.

I don't see any problems transferring SSDs from one X1 Yoga Gen4 to another X1 Yoga Gen4 at all. Same model, generation, and platform.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
