upgrading from P50...

I own a tried but true P50...but I realize it's outdated, to say the least! I'm looking for advice on replacement laptop workstations with few requirements. At first, I bought a P15s (total junk), The replacement with the latest "g-wiz" processors and screen size are the least important but on-board storage (SSD hard drive(s) and RAM size does matter) Along with the P15, I invested in the USB-C type docking station (which I'm pretty sure will be compatible with a P1,my first choice) but I'm not a big fan of those docks. To me, the USB-C connection with its thick wire invites failure...I would rather stick with a slide-on, locked-down version, like the one I now have with at least 2 video ports(not interested in HDMI or any other monitor solutions)--I favor the more bulky, heavier "built-like a tank" models over the thin lightweight stuff as it will not be "out on the road" very much, but when it will be, ruggedness is a must! This is where any input is welcome! Am I too much of a dinosaur with my "preferences"?

I would recommend you look at the excellent 770 series! It doesn't have USB-c but it does have usb 1.0.

Unless you need some new software, let me tell you windows98 rocks and internet archive has any software you could want!

The 770 series is very tanky and rugged - kinda has the mass and heft of a good dictionary.

I am posting this now from a 770X, 128MB ram and Retrozilla for a browser. No need to spend thousands to get this level of performance so give it a thought!

P16 and P16v are the current offerings.

Edit for elaboration:
P16 and P16v both have 4 ram slots and top at 128GB RAM, RTX GPU options of various capability, and two 2280 slots.

P50 has 4 ram slots and tops at 128 GB RAM, old and weak GPUs, one 2.5" slot, one 2280 SATA, and one 2280 SATA or NVME slot so 3 drive slots in total. P50 also has Thunderbolt so you could plug in any EGPU, which is the route I'm taking with my P71 which has P3000 6GB (equivalent to GTX 1060) and the P5000 upgrade is $800 (equivalent to GTX 1080). I want RTX.

P16 of course has more powerful CPU but if RAM and storage are your primary interest then I don't see how P16 brings more to the table. I would look at NAS.

Can also recommend a 770 machine. My 770Z runs super well, and is even highly upgradable. At some point I'll upgrade to a 500MHz Pentium III for hopefully 50% faster performance. It runs even XP pretty well, though I mostly use 2000.

It has that patented IBM design (ie it's an all plastic [censored]) and glorious 7 row (it actually is a pretty good keyboard) with no trackpad.

Quite portable at about 6 lbs and 2.2" thick. It's a breath of fresh air coming from my P52.

And the display is great, even though I have the low end 1024x768 one (it is unironically more color accurate than a T480 1080p FlexView and I am not joking)

Can your 770Z play Need For Speed World? My R50p handles it decently (30 fps average on low settings), actually competitive with netbook, but I wonder if the Trident Cyber will be less hot on my lap, and less likely to desolder itself.
