Brag about the "good deals" that you've bought!

#1 Post by pianowizard » Fri Nov 17, 2006 6:26 pm

I just received a near-mint X22 2662-95U (with RAM upgraded from 128MB to 256MB) for which I paid only $169 including shipping! I am ecstatic!

Have you bought some great computer stuff for cheap lately? Brag about them!

If I post the stuff I buy (and the prices I get for them), then I going to have competition ! :)

Okay, here's a recent non-computer item that I already have two of (at about the same price) and that I'm not planning to obtain any more:

Panasonic RR-XR320 Digital Voice Recorder: $53 (almost brand new, in original retail box, shipped from the UK). "Normal" price for these on eBay have been $100+.

Edit: And since I have three of these:

IBM AC/DC Combo Adapter (72W power supply with both AC and DC inputs): $20. These were either with both power cords or just the AC cord missing (not the impossible-to-find by itself DC cigarette lighter plug).

I picked up a NOS R50e 1842-T4U with 768 mb ram and warranty until 1-28-2007 for $290.01 delivered. Still in the original box with a 0 cycle battery (1 cycle now), all documentation, trackpoint caps and the lock screw. It even has the clearplate protectors on it.
The only problem was that it locked up about every three seconds for one second. So I hit F11 at boot and did a factory restore and now it is perfect.

Quick story:
I walked out of a concert in Philly because it sucked. Minutes after exiting, I saw a man eye me up, and head towards me. I thought he was going to ask for a cigarette, but instead he presented an iPod 2GB. He asked me how much it was worth, knowing he was trying to sell it, I said "I dunno..." He said "How much you got?" to which I replied $3.

SOLD!

That iPod was most likely stolen.

I like to think I got a good deal on my ThinkPad 600. I beleive I bought it for $80 and it came with a new AC adapter (dogbone style), neoprene sleeve and 20gb hard drive. I've since added a battery and a 40gb hard drive.

I also bought a lot of three ThinkPad 380s for $5 (plus shipping) and was able to salvage two of them into working computers.

The IBM Correcting Selectric II I own was bought at a garage sale in early 2005 for $5 from a lady who was having trouble with the ink ribbon. I also have an IBM Wheelwriter 3 acquired from a school band fund raiser sale for $5. Both typewriters are in great shape.

The HP 48SX I used to own until I sod it on eBay for $100 was bought at a garage sale for $5. I'm really wishing that I didn't sell it though.

That guy could have easily approached someone else and gotten $50 for it. I wonder why he didn't do that.

OK, ok. I got a Thinkpad X21 top of the line. New, old stock (still sealed in the factory plastic) for $170. Some company still had a few of these in their stock room, and never got to use them, so five years later decided to sell them. Being a Thinkpad Addict, what I was supposed to do? 8)

About the guy that sold you that iPod for $3, the most likely explanation is that he was stoned and making enough money in the transaction to buy a hotdog didn't seem like a bad idea to him at the time. I don't think it was stolen though, probably someone dropped it entering the venue, and the guy found it.

How naive!

It was stolen without a doubt. The guy didn't look like someone who would have his iPod labeled "Tiffany's music."

And yes, he was a crackhead. Either way, it turned a 1500% profit, or something like that.

It sounds silly to suggest that he should have found the owner, but if Tiffany registered it, he could call Apple and they could alert her. I'm sure she'd reimburse him the $3. So, yeah, I think that was a jerk move.

I thought I got a good deal on my T60 (I can't say what I paid since EPP, but it was better than typical EPP), but now with the current deals my special EPP price was only a little cheaper than the regular MSRP. At the time I bought it I got a killer deal though.

Ahh relax! I do have some brain cells pinging around in my head. It's been a good while since that happened. If I may, judging by the music on the iPod, she wasn't much of an intellectual. You won't be hearing about the homicides in my posts. :P

Honestly, calling anyone didn't enter my head. It was a small piece of electronics purchased in a big city. If I encountered one again in the future, I still wouldn't think about calling Apple.

I was, though admittedly more rudely than I should have. Still, I would have called Apple (if I took the item from him in the first place - possession of stolen goods is a felony in my state.

All good. I imagine my state doesn't differ much from yours. I would have at least hoped for a misdemeanor though!

Well at least you get 3 felony counts before you're totally jacked.

That's an excellent deal. That's probably $250 profit on the forum, $500-$700 elsewhere.

Awesome; BestBuy, and other retailers, do that for the 500GB MyBooks as well.

That's alot like the deal I snagged for mine. :)

I keep running into you tonight! That's a good price, but have you stacked it up to the black friday prices for 250-300GB?
edit: skitty- there were no replies after your quoted comment when I hit the reply button...I must have blacked out.

yes, 400gb at staples for 100 is the best deal for the money. you can get into a 300gb for less than 100, but only like 80. so for 20 more bucks you can get another 100gb i say go for it.

Unfortunately Dan, they were all distributed to family members except one.

I'm the corner computer store for our extended family and there always seems to be a "need" for something newer, faster, lighter, larger, etc., etc. among my customer pool.

I have to admit that while I might carp about the workload at times, I actually enjoy offering the support for most of them.
