My best bargain was this T22, A/C adaptor, CD/DVD drive and also included a port replicator - $165.00 on E-Bay - mint condition; I have since added an 80GB HDD, a CDRW/DVD drive and upped the memory to 512.

Next weekend is the mother or all garage sales here in my town. The local high school band holds a garage sale fund raiser at the school. They have everything there. Last year I picked up a HP 20" Trinitron monitor for $7. It was is good condition. Colors were perfect, but the picture was a little dim for me. I gave that to a friend to clear up some desk space. Really wish I didn't give it away. I am going to buy another monitor this year, and see what else I can snag. Things are cheap. The last hour is stuff as much as you can in a bag for a $1. The electronics get marked down then. Can't wait until Saturday.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

Went to Goodwill today and paid $3 for a nice working Foxfire II PCI testing card today. However it lacks documentation (I was able to get software though on the internet) so if anyone would have any info on this card, please let me know, thanks. It's made by Annapolis Micro Systems.

Well the one ere, with very few exceptions such as the case today, sells everything (electronic and not) at super-inflated prices.

No, Cobb County. He's talking about Walton High School's band having a fund raiser sale which we went to together today. I bought a very clean and in great condition HP LaserJet 4050N with the JetDirect 10/100 card installed for $25 and a Sony Mavica FD100 used but like new and in box for $5. Also bought a Toshiba T1200 with an 80c86 cpu, carry case, ac adapter, working battery and dual 720k interal floppy drives (no hd) for $5.

At the same garage sale as Alphakilo went to, I got an office chair for $5 and an HP PSC 1610 that has a native scanning resolution of 4800x4800 DPI. Works fantastically.

AWESOME CAMERA!!! I used one of these in a Law Firm that I worked in, in the late 90's. I got all kinds of looks when I would use and it and be able to pull the Floppy Disk out and copy the pics to ANYONE's computer...AlphaKilo470 wrote:<snip>a Sony Mavica FD100 used but like new and in box for $5.

Latest eBay acquisition, 'cuz I just gotta get other T21s to troubleshoot my "problem" system. Plus it's got something I like...
T21 for $69.19 (seller refunded excess $5.50 for shipping; nice guy!)
Seller said that the system didn't work. Was being offered mostly stripped down (no HD, memory or battery; not an issue for me). He put a link in his auction to more pictures, which didn't work but I found them anyway. Did my usual sniping and received the system two days later. Opened up the box, did a quick visual inspection then plugged it in. 1-3-3-1 beep was not expected and it complained that no operating system was found. I figured that I won't get ANY activity at all!
Popped in a spare 256MB module and PC Doctor CD and booted it again. Came up and passed all of the diagnostics. This is looking good ! Found the old T21 hard drive that I kept when I sold my first one to another member here. Plugged it in, booted Windows, reset the screen resolution (get to this in a sec), let it discover the "new" optical drive, and then I shut it down. Brought it to work where it's been running PC Doctor and downloading Windows updates since the drive has been inactive for a couple of months.
Now here's where I know I'm going to jinx things... It has not failed to turn on yet. Been shut off and restarted at least 10 times now. Does not exhibit the "blink of death" (agghhh! he said it!!!) problem. Which of course means it still could have it. Now I'm thinking whether or not to contact the eBay seller and ask for more details as to why he said several times that the laptop didn't work.
So, why buy this system in the first place? It's got an SXGA+ screen . I've only found one dead red pixel, otherwise it's in good shape. Actually, it's better than the one in the T23 that I use every day (no pink tint when the backlight is fired up). Figuring (well, hoping) that the panel was okay, I was willing to spend a little bit more than what I won the auction for. Even if the motherboard has the B-O-D problem, I think it was worth it to get a fairly good SXGA+ panel.

Excellent buy Ray.
Only purchase I can "brag" about of late is an "as new" A31P for $349. I think it spent its previous life in a dock, the inside is perfect.
Has all the bells and whistles, UXGA IPS, WiFi, BT, etc.
Seller said it was exhibiting pink screen on BOOT, but I've yet to see it.
Gonna' put a spare 2.4GHz CPU in it and max the RAM (thanks to Brent).

My X31 (with DVD-ROM ultrabase, see sig for other details) cost me about $460US shipped, which probably isn't a bargain as such, but in Australia it's a pretty good price. I'm going to set up a small photo "session" with it and the T40 and pop some pics up this afternoon It's very nice, and reminds me a lot of my old 760XL when the ultrabase is fitted.

Saw the pics, looks good. Be careful when docking and undocking so that you don't suffer the common failure where the unit won't undock

A brand new thinkpad ultranav travel keyboard (USB) for $31 shipped off ebay for my friend. That keyboard is amazing, made me wish I bought it for myself. But I have a model M (which I got for free!) which is awesome (and noisy, much to the chagrin of my roommate )

I found a good deal on what I'm told is the best mouse for a laptop. It's also very good for desktops.
Logitech VX Revolution notebook/desktop mouse at Amazon.com
$34.95 shipped after $20 MIR from Logitech until 3/12
Here's a post I made about this:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview ... erthread=y
I bought one but suspect I'll be using it more with my desktop than my T60. It'll probably be doing a lot of double duty and maybe I'll get another when Logitech comes out with a similar model with Bluetooth. Many many reviews of this mouse at CNET and Amazon.com.

I just won 2 sticks of 512MB PC2700 RAM for $103.50 Australian (which is about $40US each) on eBay...about 25 or so % cheaper than I've seen them usually go for in an auction. I'm hopeful I might recoup half the price when I put my 2 sticks of 256MB PC2100 up over the weekend...perhaps too hopeful, but only time shall tell.

I got an email in my inbox today alerting me to this unbelievably awesome deal from MS:
http://www.microsoft.com/australia/educ ... fault.mspx
I was going to buy the academic version of Office 2007 Pro for my T40 to replace the trial version I have on it, but this looks like the go! Dunno how many Aussie university students are on this board, but if you're one this looks like one very good offer. I hope the product key I purchase will be able to be used on my X31 as well.

Hey Captain, that is a great deal!! Glad to see you are up and around We both got some good camera deals, I just won a Sony Cybershot 5mPx for $63 and the guy threw in a 256MB memory stick and rechargeable Nih batteries. I've already won a 2GB Sony Memory stick for $14 for it, but it's great. Has an awesome large LCD on the back and the video it takes is super crisp. Hope you're enjoying that camera.

On the subject of cameras bought cheap, I scored myself a new Canon PowerShot A550 (7.1MP, 4x optical zoom) yesterday for about $110 US ($150 Australian - retails for $280 Australian) - it was advertised in the store that I was in as a returned unwanted gift. No faults, warranty still valid, all accessories and ...admittedly it was slightly impulsive but it'll be handy not having to lug my big zoom Fujifilm camera at places where I'll want to take pics.Purcy wrote:Hey Captain, that is a great deal!!
