yes, the shipping seemed a bit high, but if you go to the bottom and put in more items, you'll see you get a nice shipping break. I paid $8.51 shipping on two sticks, only .20 more for the second stick.

I managed to score one, 256MB Kingston SODIMM that works great in my T20 from a guy on Craigslist for all of $20! It would have been a pair, actually, but the other SODIMM he had was apparently dead.

More Memory Than You Can Shake A Stick At!!!

#33 Post by fleamourian » Fri Jan 26, 2007 6:43 pm

Well spank me daddy!!! That's £38.78, I just asked about memory, obviously blind to this sticky topic. Anyone know about compatible HDDs? I'd hate to be annoying! If not downright darn near lazy...

Will go search previous logs.

I didn't see this mentioned-or asked in this thread-but I was just checking out Crucial's website and the memory for the T2x systems. When the post was originally made, the T23 PC133 memory was more expensive than the memory spec'd for the T20-T22 models.

Now however, the 256MB PC133 for the T20-T22 is $76, and the 256MB PC133 for the T23 is onsale for $48.59. I looked at the specs and both sticks are PC133, CL2, 32Megx64 chips-but they do have different part numbers.

So, since they seem to be the same basic sticks of memory with the same basic specs-will these cheaper T23 sticks now work in the T20-T22 systems?

Well the memory arrived today-and much to my chagrin, no it doesn't work in the T20-22's. I was hoping since the specs looked the same that it would work and we could save a few bucks on a 256MB stick...guess I will hit ebay for a few!

That sucks. How many chips (count both sides) are there on the stick?

For sticks that definitely work in the T20, go to eBay and search for "33L3069" or "33L3070".

Crucial memory tester really works...

#38 Post by simonbrew » Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:57 pm

I have no commercial connection with Crucial, but I must record how VERY pleased I have been with their memory upgrades over the last 4 yrs, ALL selected via the downloadable memory selection tool.
I've upgraded 2 T41s, 1 R40e, my desktop (twice) and even a Brother printer, and all memory worked straight out of the box.

It may not be the cheapest, but if it's easy to order and actually works, it gets my vote....

I would have to agree that the Micron/Crucial modules are high-quality memories (full disclosure: I work for a company which used to be a competitor of Micron). However, sometimes their recommendations for the amount of memory that can be installed in a system is incorrect or confusing. Some of that may be due to IBM's own documentation for older systems (i.e. 600Es), but for my T23 that's not the case. Information in the May 2005 edition of the tawbook.pdf file says that the maximum supported memory for the T23 is 1GB. If you go to the Crucial.com site and call up an IBM Thinkpad model 2647 (a T23), you see conflicting data. The "Maximum Memory" is correct at 1GB. Next to the diagram of the two memory slots, the maximum amount of memory that can be installed in each slot says "256MB", with a notation, "not to exceed manufacturers supported memory". They are currently only offering 128MB and 256MB modules, when I know for a fact that they have (had) a 512MB module which does work in the system (Micron MT16LSDF6464, a 16-chip solution or possibly a Crucial CT64M64S4W75, an 8-chip module).

My T23 has 2 of those Crucial 512MB sticks that Ray mentions.
They have 16 chips really, 8 chips on each side!
My sticks say Micron MT16LSDF6464HG-133D2 on one side and
Crucial CT64M64S4W75.16F on the other side.
They work great, by the way.

Reading the threads, most of you seem to be using 2 x 256MB sticks to match a maximum of 512 (for the T20/21/22 at least). Does 1 x 512MB stick work in a T21? I located a stick of 512 MB pc133 with 8 chips on either side (16 in total == low density).

Don't know, but would be interesting to find out. This would be especially helpful on X20~X21 machines if we could find a way of disabling the onboard RAM.

I have a pc133 256mb chip from Intel....

#45 Post by dogma420 » Thu Oct 04, 2007 10:58 pm

Hey, hows everyone doing?

I have a "Mosel Vitelic" brand chip...

It came out of a T23 from IBM...IBM itself at their shipping storage place must've been out of IBM brand chips, because this came out of a IBM T23 from the 'factory' (this chip was on the T23 inside the IBM sealed box way back when).

Anyways, it is a PC133 256mb CL3 chip.

Best offer can have it. I have in the past shipped out through USPS, so I'm setup to send it in one of their boxes I have.

Just let me know. Whatever offer I get, as long as it sounds reasonable. I have some 512 T30/T40-X40 DDR and DDR2 chips as well. Not so concerned about them to sell on Ebay, and this sounds like the best place to sell them.

Actually, on this chip I just mentioned, the "IBM" sticker is on the other side...(I'm tired, sorry).

It's a 38L4697 FRU 19K4655 (this is the PC133 / CL3 chip I just mentioned)

Best offer gets it.

For a Buy-It-Now price, that's not too bad in today's market. However, since we're talking about overseas transactions, one has to weigh that price against the possibility that the unit arrives DOA and you have to pay return shipping to Hong Kong. Several regular auction prices that have closed recently for low density 256MB PC100/PC133 modules are:

Different Hong Kong seller (???; wording of auction terms very similar to each other) appears to be the same Kingmax module; $11.50 shipped:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0449149195

Same seller (memorymaster2008) running an auction for the same module; $11.99 shipped:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0448354976

USA seller (mwdusa) offering Micron 256MB module; $13.52 shipped:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0440698783

Kingmax is a lower-tier (IMHO) module maker than say the "big boys" (Micron, Elpida, Samsung, et al.). As long as they pass a program like memtest86+, then you should be fine running them. I'm pretty sure that a couple of my 600-series systems are using KingMax. As far as the eBay prices, it goes to show what I've always said... you can get good deals if you are patient enough (and somewhat lucky).

this is the seller in first auction cited by Ray above: I have received a bad
KingMax 256xpc100 from them (also, a good one): we are 5 days from the
feedback deadline, although as instructed I sent the item back on 17 may--
they paid return postage $1.44 USPS first class

will post ultimate outcome

3 KingMax 256xpc100 modules have passed & they seem to be working
fine (600x, x20)

Unknown_K,

Check out the link RBS posted in this other thread. So far it is the best price I've seen on new modules for the T23.

It doesn't hurt to scout out fleabay either guys;

I recently bought approx 20 modules from T22 256MB, T30 512MB and T30 1GB, all Kingston, ranging in cost from $13 to 40 per module shipped. It was all Kingston KTM-xxxx Let's see KTM-TP390X/256 for T22s, KTM-TP133/512 for T23, and KTM-TP0028/1G for T30s.

Some of these were new in the sealed Kingston mini packs. Two of the T22 modules were very early run, in their original packs.

It all worked. I'm still looking for a couple T23 modules, so don't go outbidding me! :D

Bottom line: some of this was less than 1/2 the current crucial cost for T23 512MB modules, and it was all less than the T30 (really T40) 1GB modules. And it was all the correct PNs for each machine.

Mike, I just got 2 sticks of 512MB for my T23. Cost me $50, plus 25 shipping.

Shipping sounds high, but it also came with a working T23, 10 ultrabay batteries, 4 other ultrabay devices, 3 main batteries, 2 AC units, 3 HDDs, all over 180GB...

Can't wait until it all shows!
