For those who still work on legacy thinkpads
a mirror of the old IBM BBS pccbbs...

This archive was made possible by the very kind and forward-looking
Aron Eisenpress who took it upon himself to mirror the entire
"ftp.pc.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs" archive on December 12th, 1999. This archive
includes all the files made available by IBM on that day to support
their PC hardware up to that date.

Feel free to mirror and/or use this content anywhere/however
you like, as long as you don't charge for it. IBM retains all
rights to this material.

I found this some time ago. Don't know how long it's been up. Frankly, I find it a little insulting that IBM/Lenovo/etc can't afford to keep this stuff. Seems to me that keeping a simple little ftp site with a few files is negligible, given the long term success of their products, and the number (of us) that have supported THEM for so long.

I must be a little dense. I can't exactly figure out how to use it. Any pointers appreciated.

The first thing I suggest one should do is go to the "gen_text_files" directory and download "allfiles.zip" which contains "allfiles.txt" which is a list, by directory and by name within directory, of the files available along with a short description of the file.

Most of the viewers here will be primarily concerned with the files to be found in the "mobiles" directory.

The link http://greyghost.dyndns.org/pccbbs/ above is dead. Is this the end for downloading drivers etc for the old Thinkpad ? :(

Through a little bit of detective work, try this:

http://12.206.251.215/pccbbs/

Note that the IP address may change. This information was found at:

NOTE: All links to PC-Doctor software hosted by me are now dead. Files were removed 8/28/12 by manufacturer's demand.

It looks like Lenovo has got pccbbs back up and running!
...well sort of

The files are all there and can be downloaded. The problem is you can't browse them to see what's there. The files are hidden. You have to know the name of the file to download it.

For example

If you go to the following link you will see all of the pccbbs folders:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/

Now, if you click on "mobiles" you get a blank screen instead of a list of files in the mobiles directory. But, the files are really there!

Try this url for "600cklst.pdf" which is the Thinkpad 600 checklist in pdf format:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/600cklst.pdf

Here's another on for the Thinkpad 600 setup guide "600setup.pdf"
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/600setup.pdf

We need someone to do an html page that links to the files available.

Here's a link on the same server to several IBM Thinkpad themes and wallpapers:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccwww/ww/thinkpad/wallpaper/

I would like a copy of the files. Are they small enough to fit on a DVD and mail out?
