Adding drives to an A60

#1 Post by GhostriderTx » Tue Oct 23, 2007 7:56 pm

Got a good deal on an A60 from the surplus site but want to add two more drives. It has a SATA hard drive and DVD drive on IDE which has one free port. Also want to add a diskette. The Lenovo diagram shows a port so I think all I need is a drive and cable. Is there a specific cable?

I edited this because after posting I realized I was looking at the wrong cablre and had both SATA and IDE

You will need a SATA cable (signal cable) and a power lead adapter cable for the SATA HDD. IDE cable and power lead adapter cable will be required for diskette drive.

No problem adding the extra drives but I discovered a couple of things. There are extra brackets for the second optical drive and floppy attached to the side of the cage holding them. I used screws for the DVD and then found the brackets which was good because the diskette drive (not a lenovo drive) does not line up with the screw holes. The only way to get it flush is the bracket. I was trying find out where to order them and saw a reference to the extra "retainer bracket" in the hardware manual.
