Just in case you were curious what the screen difference is between the X61 Tablet and the X61s here are some pictures for you. The tablet is on the left and the X61s is on the right.

By the way the tablet is a Multiview/Multitouch screen, and as you can see the multiview portion definitely lives up to its name. Another thing to note is that the color on the tablet is definitely richer than on the X61s. Boy I wish they made these displays for the X61s.

WTF before I purchased I read that the tablet screen did not look as good as the X61S, this makes me want to cancel my order on the X61S that screen looks washed out as hell. Is that the Ultralight Screen or the regular one on the X61S?

If you have a chance to snap some in bright sunlight that would be awesome. Apparently, the MV is supposed to help lots with that.

No it does not, actually the non-MV SXGA+ screen (which I have on my x61t) is better outdoors. Still not usable under sunlight, even difficult in the shadow on a bright day.

The screen is only washed out when you look at it with non-direct viewing angles. The X61s screen looks great when looking at it directly. And to answer your question ...Yes, the X61s is the Ultralight screen. The Ultralight screen has 180 nits of brightness where the X61T Multiview and the standard X61 screen only has 150 nits.

I would be curious to see how the two screens compare because tabook says they are both outdoor worthy. Checkout this exerpt from tabook that talks about the X61T displays...

Some: 12.1" (307mm) SXGA+ (1400x1050) color, 190 nits, 4:3, 500:1, 170° viewing, direct bonding panel (SuperView) for improved outdoor viewability

From my personal experience the MV/MT screen is usable outside in the sunlight whereas my X61s really isn't. I'll try to take some pics later today or tomorrow (I'm in the Sunshine state so it shouldn't be hard to find a sunny day to take pics). Pibach if you could take some pics of your SXGA screen outside and post them that would be cool too because then we could see all three. It would be nice to see if the screen brightness between the SXGA and MV/MT is a big difference when being used outside.

As you can see it is readable. But it is stressful if you really want to do some work under such light conditions.

Well, one is Flexview and the other TN, no comparison there, IPS wins by miles!

I am not so sure here. For your daily work it does not so much matter what brightness, color saturation, contrast, viewing angle etc you get. At the end it is more about how relaxed it is going for your eyes on a 8+ hours workday. My x61t's Superview is very nice, but the RGB sparkle (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=53558) due to IPS+coating is not for everybody. I would appreciate a regular TN panel SXGA+ equipped x62s - that might be ideal.

I tried accessing your photo comparison between the X61s and the X61 Tablet screen but the images were no longer available. If its not too much trouble, can post a few of those images back up. I am really curious to see the difference between the two screens.

Is there anyone else who post some photos comparing the two screens?

Have you calibrated both screens? My X61s must have had a 30%-40% improvement in colors after I calibrated it with my spyder. I have the file hosted for this forum still if you do a search.

Of course the proper way to do this is to calibrate each individual screen but it should get you close if you have the same panel. it's still not as good as my 37" monitor, but WAY better than it was out of the box.

In any case, I do not yet have an X61s but I am very close to purchasing one. I am anxious to try the color profile that you so generously posted. I also have access to a Spyder2Pro. I just wanted to get some tips from you when calibrating your screen. Did you use the native white point or did you specify some other color temperature? I guess the common one is 6500K for the sRGB standard. Also, did you set the brightness of your screen all the way up prior to calibrating. I'm not sure how this would affect things considering the screen seems to wash out at the highest brightness setting.

It will walk you through it, I'm not certain on the brightness settting but yes I turned it all the way up for the laptop. I turned it down most of the way on my Westinghouse though cause by default it is overly bright. The working for selecting the correct setting is kinda vague. I'm not sure how it will refelect the end result since mostly we care about calibrating color.

Definately use the spyder if you have access to one and post about the difference it made in the other thhread. It will be better than using the profile I posted. in the end though these screens have a terrible viewing angle. I use mine to watch TV (wirelessly) at home via a network tuner and wireless repater/bridge. The colors are also not as great as my calibrated TV/Monitor, but for a laptop it will get the job done.

I calibrated for 6500k

Since my GF has x61s LED backlight one, and I have x61 tablet multitouch/multiview, I wanted to write my opinion.


x61s screen
is much brighter and crispier
sometimes kind of look like too white because of the brightness
kind of looks like a regular desktop LCD screen

x61 tablet MT/MV screen
is a little dim, but okay brightness
looks fuzzy (not crispy nor sharp)
colors look like more contrast is added
colors look like more orange and red


But for seeing photos, I don't really like my x61 tablets screen because it's not sharp and colors look kind of faded.

I didn't compare in outdoors, but I would think that since x61s is much brighter, it should be more viewable in brighter places

Both screens doesn't have any grainy white background as in laptops such as dell inspirion e1405 14" screens.


My GF's laptop is way lighter! I wonder why they had to make the tablet so heavy. I used to use Dell latitude D420 (3 lb)

Thanks very much. Have you tried calibrating you screen using its native white point. According to Dry Creek Photo,

"If you have a LCD screen and your calibration system allows using the native white point, do so. This preserves the maximum possible color range on LCD monitors."

I've had mixed results with using 6500K or the LCD's native white point in the past. I'm just curious what the results are like for X61s.

Hi I know that this topic is really old but I was wondering if anyone has a good calibration profile for the X61 Tablet? I am interested in getting the whitest whites on my screen, I have an X60T compared to this one, anything white on the X60T looks real white while the X61T looks dim and not really white.

Interesting. A good suggestion, maybe Erik or one of the mods/veterans have some experience with this.
