Weight of X300 in various configurations

#1 Post by ComputerMinder » Thu Feb 28, 2008 5:28 pm

Couldn't find a definite answer. Does someone know the answer?

X300 without DVD bay and without Battery bay that is only bezel
X300 with DVD (the standard confg)
X300 with 3-cell bay battery instead of DVD

I want to see how does it compare to my X61s 1.24kg (2.73 pounds)

Also is there any optional battery like X61 has? Like the 8 cell one ?

I would rather save space by not having the DVD which I don't need in everyday use anyway. And leave the bay empty, so I would have the lightest machine. Then when on business travels I could just replace the external 3 cell batter and put a 8 cell one.

2.93 lbs (1.33 kg) with 3-cell battery and empty bay with travel bezel
3.16 lbs (1.43 kg) with 3-cell battery and DVD burner
3.35 lbs (1.52 kg) with 6-cell battery and DVD burner

the weights between the above are so close that i doubt you'd ever notice the difference between one with a DVD and one without.   in fact, the weight of the DVD burner is approximately that of four AA batteries (~100g or 0.22 lbs), which is nothing.

the optional battery is 6-cell.

would you know the weight with 6 cell battery and 3 cell battery in bay (i.e. total 9 cell) ? if the battery weighs like the DVD i'd rather go with the battery. thanks

the bay battery is lithium polymer so it's one big cell, not 3.   i don't have an exact numbers on its weight but imagine it's marginally heavier than the DVD.

These are the weights I've come up with:

3-cell & modular bay empty: 2.93 lbs (4.3hr)
6-cell & modular bay empty: 3.08 lbs (6.5hr)
3-cell & DVDRW in modular bay: 3.17 lbs
6-cell & DVDRW in modular bay: 3.32 lbs
3-cell & 3-cell bay battery: 3.37 lbs
6-cell & 3-cell bay battery: 3.52 lbs (10hr)
