notebook only boots to Rescue & Recovery
When I turn on the Notebook the system goes directly to the Thinkvantage RnR program. I have rescued my files, and then when I do a System Restore, it sits there and does nothing. I have attempted to boot into safe mode, acts like it's going there and then the RnR launches again. Any input is appreciated.

welcome to the forum.
by chance, did you recently update/upgrade the r&r application?
if so, this: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-62978
might be what you're looking for.

Sarbin,
Thanks for the welcome wishes. Thanks to your response. I went and copied the rNr Repair to a CD. When I go into BIOS to make sure I boot from the CD, my default boot choices are:
1: IDE ODD: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N
2: SATA HDD: Toshiba MK1234GSX-(S1)
3: PCI LAN: Realtek Boot Agent
* my computer however ignores the CD and the RnR program again stares at me . Am I doing something wrong? thank you again.

are you burning the .iso file as and 'image' to the cd? or as a data disc? your boot order looks fine, but the file you dl'ed needs to be burned as an image which makes the cd bootable. i don't know what burning software you're using, but look for an option that is similar to: 'burn as/from image'.

dang. sorry.
unfortunately, i don't have any more ideas for you.
i'm sure someone more knowledgeable about rnr will stop by. you may also want to post your question in the 'general hardware/software' forum for additional exposure.

I ran into a similar problem when I tried to dual boot linux on a system. I think your MBR got corrupted. If you have XP, find a XP install CD and go to the recovery console. Select you drive and enter your password. Type FIX MBR and press enter, then FIX BOOT, and press enter, restart and it should work again. If you have Vista, you will need to find a Vista install CD. I forget where in the prompt where this happens, but on the lower left corner on the install window you should see recovery options or something like that. Click that and select fix startup. This reinstalls the vista bootloader it should work again.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.
