Two days ago Lenovo sent me email saying some or all of my order shipped. Although the Lenovo order status website still shows a ship date of 27 October 2008 for all four "pieces" (computer, mini-dock, case, hard drive Ultrabay adapter), the mini-dock arrived this morning 22 October 2008.

Does anyone know how UPS works? I have been following my new W500 since it left China. It has been in Anchorage for 2 days with no movement. Originally the UPS site said scheduled delivery was 3/5/09, now it says nothing and tomorrow is the origianlly scheduled date.

UPS never ceases to amaze me with it's penchant for errors. I too was following my W500 from the time it left China. And I was using both the online tracking system, plus calling in just to double check. To make a very long story short, the "delivery date" on mine changed no fewer the 7 times in a matter of just two days. I got conflicting info from web tracking vs. phone tracking. As recently as this morning (3.4.09) mine was set for a delivery date of 3.11.09, according to both phone and web tracking. Yet just 30 minutes later it was delivered to me. Now you know why I choose FedEx whenever I ship something.

Well after I posted the UPS question, I checked again and suddenly they updated 3 stops. It went form Anchorage to Louisville to Charleston to Miami in just 2 hours. Not bad Huh? PS, it was deleivered to me just an hour ago, the original date promised. What good is a tracking system if it doesn't track in real-time?

Good question. I don't know as I'm not familiar with shipping times in your area. Yet that said, they usually arrive pretty quickly after the status changes to shipped.

This is my second ThinkPad. My first is a T22 ordered on Sept 12, 2001. Still working good. Had to replace the hard disk and display cable along the way. Also maxed out the memory at 500M. Now it's time for a new W500!

I got the shipping notification on Friday, August 21. Later that evening, I could see that it had left Hong Kong.

I received it on Monday, August 24 (I had opted for the $25 two day delivery).

It had gone from Hong Kong, to Anchorage, to Louisville, to Phoenix, to Long Beach, and to Cerritos.

So I ordered on a Sunday and received it one week from the following Monday (8 days). Very smooth transaction and shipping.

Awesome laptop! I had only one issue: Cisco VPN would not work with the Intel 5300 with PAN wireless. I finally found a thread in some other forum that mentioned the same problem and said that using an older driver for the Intel 5300 would work. I did that and it worked perfectly.

I ordered the WUXGA screen and Windows came setup for 120 DPI. It looked OK, but I set it back to normal (96) and it looks great.

Fully loaded W500 4058CT ordered on 8-25 and just got an email on 8-28 that it has shipped! I knew it would be here way before the extimated shipping date but with two day shipping, it looks like it will be here early to mid next week!
