OK, My order is stuck in customs day 4 now... I got a hold of customs in Kentucky and they say the problem lies with 108 packages that were sent by Lenovo and a few of the packages have some issues or missing paperwork which delays the whole thing kit and kaboodle from being released... Other companie's don't have nearly as bad a reputation for this occuring than Lenovo does. I do believe this may very well be the last time I order anything from Lenovo even though it is cheaper overall than its competitors.. waiting two months or more for an order is ridiculous and then the icing on the cake is after its shipped... well... I don't have to go over it again...

The long shipment delays, seem to occur right after new models are launched. To my understanding, the situation was similar when the 60 and 61-series were launched.

However, I like the thinkpads so much that I am willing to overlook the shipment delays.

im in irvine... ordered the same day as you. ordered the port replicator and that has arrived already.

i called 2 days ago and they said they have a shortage of ALL batteries... be it the 4, 6, or 9 cell.. all lith ion batteries are constrained from their supplier.

customer service rep stated estimated ship date of 10/09 instead of the 10/02 listed from our 9/18 order date.

I'm in Irvine as well. Thanks for the info. Kind of depressing, but oh well. I would've gotten the pre-made version from j&r but it's a 4-cell.

you can still cancel your order

#105 Post by beight922 » Fri Sep 26, 2008 2:11 pm

you can still get the x200 from others like jr or cdw... then get the battery from another source. just yesterday i saw the 9 cell on amazon for ~$179... it'll take some looking around though if you cant wait.

I have a question, I have been reading all of these horror stories about shipping and batteries not being available for the X200 and this has been causing delays. Are there any current issues out there that anyone has seen holding up the shipments. I ordered mine on 10/1 and est. ship is 10/15.

Thanks,

H.

hello! my laptop just arrived yesterday! :D

it is lighter than lenovo 3000 v100, and the 6 cell batterie gived me about 5 hours of autonomy working with brightness at full, and with a use about 2 hours and a half, using gnu/linux debian lennynhalf.

laptop works nice in vista, 4Gb of RAM I think is good for running vista, not 2Gb that offers lots of laptops.
also works fine on debian, in my blog there's a wide explanation of the installation (in spanish, use a translator if you want to know more).

http://blackhold.blogspot.com/2008/10/l ... -x200.html

thinkpad engineers, the new way to charge a second batterie is a nice idea, but is so rude! I think in next versions will search for a better solution, maybe a button that you push and appears the second charger.

I also bought a 12v car charger... 3g modem, car charger, fully connection anywhere anyplace!

the most important configuration hardware things are:
- at first time, using kernel 2.6.26-1 wireless won't work, you should install 2.6.27 kernel to have intel 5000AGN series (5100AGN & 5300AGN). So I think in a month more or less, it will be fully supported, a thing to see is if that supports monitor mode (the lenovo 3000 v100 wifi card, don't).
- fingerprint I think(pad) that will be supported, in my blog I also have a post about this, then the problem is the right working with nowadays authentification programs.
- sound works well, and it sounds harder that 3000 v100, that's really great!
- webcam also works with 2.6.26-1 kernel, only turned on with skype, mus't see if you could change the capture options.
- bluetooth works
- mediabuttons works very well! I think I will asign open a new console to thinkpad button... bluebutton, give me shell!

other things to see are:
- modem
- 3g card (seems be supported also in 2.6.27 kernel!), wich program use to configure and use that?
- media cards
- pcmcia express
- SATA port in mediabase

I ordered my X200 Tablet on 09/23/08. The original ship date was 10/17. On 10/16, I found out that it was pushed back to 10/21. It then went to 10/28.

I got notice that it has shipped and I should have it around 11/3.

I ordered mine through Allegiance Technology Partners (John Hill). They do such a great job! They are extremely knowledgeable, they stand behind what thy do, and they are strong supporters of the tablet pc community.

Ordered an X200 on CPP

ship date is 1/29 (seems a bit idealistic given their history)

Just wish i didn't have to pay tax.

Ordered an x200s 1/23, first estimated ship date was 2/3, then pushed back to 2/13; had a nice chat with lenovo rep and order shipped on 2/5, arriving 2/9.

Had I read this thread before ordering and known to expect delays in shipment...I might not have ordered the laptop to begin with :/

It's really not good when they say '5-9' business days till they ship the item, and then keep pushing back the ship date (the customer service rep's records had my ship date as 2/17!)

I just ordered an X200s from CDW; it shipped the same day! I got a great deal through their outlet store too, so if anyone's looking for a good deal, there are more to be had there. They have a better selection than the Lenovo outlet at the moment, and many of the machines come with docks and 3-year warranties.

It's worth a look! :)

My refurbed X301 (bought via IBMOutlet on eBay) left Brooklyn on the 2nd and just arrived in Hong Kong today. I'll probably get it tomorrow or Tuesday. Very impressive service from UPS Expedited!

Hey guys,

Just bought a x200 from the outlet store, May 14th. Have not gotten an email from the outlet store yet, not even sure if they have the thinkpad I ordered. I'm currently working in South Korea but my brother is coming here to work as well in mid-june. So I sent the thinkpad to his house, now with all these horror stories I'm hearing about ship dates being moved back and all the problems I'm reading I'm afraid the thinkpad will not reach my brother in time for him to bring it with him.

I've also read that the outlet store is not very good at sending you what you ordered, sometimes you benefit from that mistake like an upgrade on the ram or what not but I'm worried that I'm going to end up with a mis-matched spec thinkpad.

Any thoughts or suggestions or anything....

yea I know I probably should have thought about all this before ordering but no way for me to get the x200 here in korea for the price I could back home.

A nice little horror story

My first order for a custom configured X200S was placed May 22, 2009. For unknown reasons a hold was placed on it for a week. I called customer service and the rep removed the hold but no explanation was provided as to why this hold was placed. Laptop was shipped June 22, 2009 with 2-day shipping; it took a week to arrive from China.

In the interim, before this order shipped, I found out that the price for a CPU upgrade (from 1.86 to 2.13 GHz) had come done dramatically, from a few hundred dollars to $25. I called in to change the order, but was told a new order had to be placed. As such I returned the above order at a cost of $11 and placed another order on June 11, estimated to ship July 13, 2009.

On July 13 the estimated ship date for this new order became October 5, 2009! I called in to inquire why. I was told somebody will get back to me within 24 hours. This did not happen. On July 16 I called again and was told the 80 GB SSD was not available and it would be best to cancel this order and place another one. This news of the SSD not in stock showed up 4+ weeks after placing the order!

I then requested a new quote with an alternate SSD (the 128GB one). This new quote came the same day. I looked at it, and noticed that while yes, the drive was 128GB SSD, the laptop itself was no longer the X200S, but rather it had been changed to X200!

I pointed this out over the phone to customer service and asked him to please correct it. I sent him a copy of my second order (the one in limbo with October ship date) and asked him to please just change the 80GB SSD to a 128GB SSD and send me the slightly revised quote.

The new quote arrived Friday July 17: correct laptop this time (X200S), but no sign of the 128GB SSD. Instead the CPU had been lowered to a 1.4GHz Intel processor from 2.13 GHz, and the hard drive was a 250GB 5400 RPM one! I did not ask for any of these changes, just a simple change from a 80GB SSD to a 128GB SSD from the previous order.

Also on Friday, I gave up. I need time to try to forget this episode and hope that it was all one giant bad dream. This type of customer service is unacceptable anywhere. Thinkpads are great laptops and I very much like my T43P, but they are not worth waiting months for, or going through such treatment.

Just an FYI from X200S Shopping today:
if you order the WXGA+ (1440x900) LED backlight screen, it looks like it will be slower to ship:
"Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks."
