t40 Ultranav and trackpoint not working

#1 Post by kevboy67 » Wed Nov 11, 2009 5:10 pm

Hi,
I have had this problem for a long time and am tired of using my USB mouse and would like to resolve it. I can't remember if this ever worked since I changed my hdd a year back.

I can't use my trackpoint or touchpad although they are enabled. I tried installing drivers but didn't work. I tried unistall driver but no joy. Also removed keyboard and palm rest and cleaned, re-connected (easy part).

Error message from device manger. thinkpad ultranav this device cannot start code (10)

Current driver version: 11.1.21.0

Thanks in advance
Kev

Download or borrow a copy of a "live" Linux CD and boot from it.

If the touchpad/trackpoint work, you have a driver issue within Windows.

If they don't, you're facing a hardware problem.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Isn't there a setting in the BIOS to disable the track point on the 4x series :??:

Check out this BIOS simulation:

Config>keyboard/mouse. Maybe your got disabled somehow.

Hi,
Checked the BIOS and both enabled on auto, this also advises ps/2 external mouse connected trackpoint/touchpad auto disabled but tried restarting without the mouse and still same.

Did get some error message with mouse disconnected in thinkpad manager using only keyboard to navigate saying TP98.exe ( Instruction at "0x73e6827a" ref memory at "0x00145504" memory could not be read) All drivers and stuff up to date.

I will try the live linux boot when I get a chance and update thread.

Thanks again
Kevin

Definately try the linux distro.

But i'm wondering if maybe your PS/2 port might be damaged,
shorted, and the machine thinks it has a mouse plugged into the port. :??:

Hi,
Sorry I haven't got the linux yet, any tips to what and where I get it from? Seen many diff verisons from google.

I am using the mouse via USB not PS/2. Maybe my USB is damaged as transferring files to mem sticks etc takes for ever and I get the message about item is a high speed device and will perform faster if I connect it to a Hi speed 2.0 USB device.... Is my usb ports not 2.0?

My mc type is 2373 92G
