S12 3G UMTS Card and antenna

#1 Post by koden » Mon Jan 04, 2010 2:48 pm

Hello

I'm wondering why no body than me have problem with getting my 3G card to work...

Is it only in Denmark we use UMTS that much?

I have this S12 and have found out that i need a card that fit in a slot in the bottom of the pc.
Same place there is a sim card slot, but without this mini pcmcia like card it's not functioning...

Later I found out that there proberly are no antenna built in... and that this is dificult to built in..

Anyone with experience on this area? And why does lenovo make this oppurtunity, when it's so difficult to use?
I'm danish. Sorry for my sometimes bad english spelling and understanding.

Because I have more than one ThinkPad, I use an AT&T Laptop Connect Lightning USB Card. http://www.i4u.com/article28242.html

This way I can move it from one ThinkPad to the next. It works great with my Lenovo S-12 Netbook.

In regards to your situation I'm not sure what you mean by "having a problem with your 3G card" as you do not list the specific card you have. I looked at the bottom of my S-12 and do not see a place for a 3G card of any type. I'm wondering if there is a difference in the models Lenovo ships to the USA vs Denmark? Have you tried giving tech support a call?

Hello, as I can understand, you don't have the mini PCI-e card yet, right?

this card is the WWAN controller. Whitout this card, SIM slot won't work.

try to look for "Sierra MC8775" on eBay.

and for "WWAN antenna" also

You'll gonna need them both

Hi

To install the antenna is not difficult, but the place where you leave it makes all difference i signal power.

You don't need to build anything, just plug it in the card and leave it anywher.

If you leave it in the bottom of the computer, the reception will be weak.

You can leave it right below the keyboard, or in the best place... behind the LCD (then you needx to choose one with a long wire).
