[PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
[PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
My X41T 8-cell has gone dead for some time, and I finally decided to get a new one. I also bought a X61T 8-cell because the original one can now only hold 50-60% of the designed capacity.
I bought them via a mainland Chinese auction/merchant site, both of them were listed as complete new but with cosmetic defects. Both were below USD45 excluding shipping, the X41T 8-cell was slightly cheaper.
For the X61T 8-cell, according to Power Manager, its manufacture date is 2007-04-16 with zero cycle count. It does have some cosmetic defects, but it charged to 100% and now I'm draining it and see how it goes. So far, it has lost one third of the charge after an hour or so, during which I was mainly surfing around the Net.
For the X41T 8-cell, it isn't going as well. It charged to 34% and then stopped. When I unplugged the power cord, the machine then lost power immediately. The manufacture date is 2005-12-09 and strangely, it has a first used date of 2005-09. I'll wait a day or so and see how it goes.
Cheers.

Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
After calibration, the X61T 8-cell is reported to have a full charge capacity of 62.89Wh out of a designed capacity of 66.24Wh.
The X41T 8-cell remains at 34%, I'm waiting for a replacement now.
Cheers.

Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
In the case of the X41t battery, looks like they used an controller from a recycled battery.

Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
The first use date was 2005-09. They removed the controller from an old battery and did a recell.

Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
Sounds logical to me. It looked strange to me as well, but I wouldn't have cared much if it worked anyway.
I'm still expecting the replacement, it should arrive in 2 days.
The X61T 8-cell is a bargain through.
BTW, what do you think I should do we the old batteries...? Find someone to re-cell them? But I heard that the tablet batteries use some special cells in addition to cylindrical ones, so re-celling them could be quite a task...? Or I should just sell them away...?
Cheers.

Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
The replacement X41T 8-cell arrived today and so far, it works.
For once, the outlook is much better. I forgot to mention, but the previous one arrived with a cracked case along the back edge between the two halves, and is in overall poor shape. The new one, aside from the marks on the labels, appears to be clean.
The manufacturer date is 2006-07-11 and the first used date is 2006-08. For some reasons, during the initial charge it also stopped at around 3x%, but unlike the previous one, it soon resumed charging, until 100%.
I'm now running a reset and see how it goes.

Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
After calibration, the new X41T 8-cell is reported to have a full charge capacity of 53.17 Wh (design capacity 64.8 Wh).

Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
Hi loyukfai,
Could you please tell me how I can tell if it's the battery is dead and the motherboard is not charging?
I can afford to pay for a replacement battery, but if it's the motherboard is not charging, that would be a waste and damage to the environment with the two batteries.
If I can prove that the motherboard is not charging, I might just get a replacement motherboard from ebay.
Thanks
Marlin

Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
I don't have the expertise to advise you on this. Though it seems aged battery failures are more common than motherboard failures.
Not to mention that replacing the battery is much easier than replacing the motherboard.
If anybody knows, please chime in.
Cheers.

Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
thanks, strange enough. the battery, although aged, has been working fine until one day my x41 just couldn't charge it. I was wandering if the problem came from the battery or motherboard.
Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
Yeah, it happens. In fact, it just happened to the X61T pack for me. Considering it's only been used (by me, FWIW) for 1-year, it's not so a bargain afterall.marlin9107 wrote:thanks, strange enough. the battery, although aged, has been working fine until one day my x41 just couldn't charge it. The X41T is still working but the full charge capacity has (predictably) dropped.
Cheers.
Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
As this is active, I just wanted to know if anyone here knows if there's an end-user way of resetting the chip once it has reported it has died? (I'd like to know if I can do my own recell)

Re: [PIC!] Experience Buying Replacement Batteries
No, there's no way for an end-user way to reset the chip once it has reported it has died.Radioguy wrote:As this is active, I just wanted to know if anyone here knows if there's an end-user way of resetting the chip once it has reported it has died? (I'd like to know if I can do my own recell)
