SL510 - without Windows 7 Pro COA on the bottom?

#1 Post by tgrevers » Sat Jul 24, 2010 2:45 pm

I picked up an SL510. (2.1/2GB/250GB) It's a beautiful machine, with everything I need to drive my TV as the media center, web chat, online content machine. Interestingly, it has no Windows 7 Pro COA on the bottom of the machine. I don't even see where a COA might have been attached. Is anyone else lacking a license key on the bottom of their machine? How do you deal with this? It was sold via NewEgg.

Thanks,

-t

It's also missing the recovery DVDs, which I think I need to order separately. I think I seem to be cursed when it comes to needing recovery discs lately.

I received a new T400s from my employer, ordered through CDW, it came with no COA. When I called Lenovo to order Win 7 disks, they told me it was CDW's problem, when I called CDW, they told me it was a Lenovo problem. I didn't worry about it and still have no COA. But I have two sets of recovery disks, Win XP created by me off the original install, and Win 7 sent at no cost by Lenovo.

Thinkpads do not come with recovery disks, you have to create them, or you can order them separately.

I found the COA, it was located under the battery. Now to get the recovery disks. :)

IMHO, that is the best place to put the COA - on my T41 the COA was laminated, so even after a couple of years of heavy use, the entire thing was legible. On my t61, which I got in november, the COA(s) (vista bus. and Xp pro MAR) are already wearing off the bottom. While the keys are still legible, you cannot read the rest of the info.

MSFT should start laminating the COAs again, I think that it improves the longetivity substantially. Untill they do that, when they are under the battery, you do not need to worry about it wearing off - it is very well protected.

Hi all...

I'm new here, having just bought an SL510 :D
tip@

I always take 2 photographs of the COA. one wide to show which Pc or laptop it's on and another close up so it can be read easily

regards

That would work, but I guess that since msft don't allow for the OEM keys to be activated any more, I just learned how to use the SLP to activate it automatically myself - it is easier and faster than working through it with MSFT - that was painfull the first time I tried.
