Thinkpad T23 9547U CMOS Battery mount problems

#1 Post by TG923 » Tue Nov 02, 2010 4:26 pm

Hello,

I revived my T23 today by installing a new HD. Installed XP and all seems to be functioning fairly well. I ran into an issue with the CMOS battery. I pulled the main battery out of the T23 and located the CMOS. I removed the screw that secures the holder and the whole battery, including the post mount that it plugs into came out. I am not sure if the mount is mounted directly on the motherboard or not. Has anyone had an issue like this and can it be repaired without replacing the motherboard? Thank you for any and all help. Larry. Kansas.

The connector is soldered to the systemboard. How good are your eyes and how small is your soldering iron ? :).

Harry,

That is exactly what came out, along with the connection terminal. Guess I will have to strip this unit and see if I can get it down to where I can see exactly where it goes back in. Thanks. Larry.

You'll need to take the motherboard out completely, to get with a soldering iron to the place where the battery connector sat.
You should be able to solder that back. Most other mobos have the identical connector, which you could scrounge from a bad board.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

If you need a bad board, let me know. You can have it for shipping.

Ron,

Thank you for the offer. If I get in there and have problems soldering this connector back on, my only recourse is to replace the board completely. Not sure which direction I am going on this yet. Thank you again for the offer. Larry, Wichita, KS.
