Tested on 2668G1U (T43p) right now - no more 2010 error with non-approved Samsung HM160HC hard drive :) Could somebody update ThinkWiki? http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_w ... hard_disks

TTav134: was my comparsion table (7k100, 5k100 and HM160HC drive) with device information 512 byte string helpful for you? Do you know if 2010 error mechanism really reads some bytes from there? Thanks.

Your download site attempts to install Adware.HotBar.H application on any computer that clicks on one of the download links. Eset Nod32 caught it.

I didn't say it was in the zip file. It was detected if you click on one of the 'download' links. Don't know if that was even the correct 'download' link, but that is irrelevant. That site attempts to install a virus.

no that's just remind me i've worked on this issue 2 years ago and had a workaround.

What are you talking about?. I am referring to the download link off of that forum. This is no time for jokes. The site that is hosting your file may cause one or more of our members to pickup a virus on their PC's. It's up to you to leave it there, and it's my responsibility to warn them. By the way I caught the 'stupid' comment before and have it in cache. You may not want to repeat that mistake.

TTav134, with your agree I can provide my own FTP server for storing modified BIOSes. Could you please also make the "no-2010 mod" for X41 and R52 ThinkPads? Thx.

I can imagine nobody will be pleased about this Hotbar junk.
OTOH, if you use FireFox and have popups blocked, this Hotbar is (so far) not able to do anything.
(See! You shouldn't use IE!).
At least the downloaded file is 'clean'.
I'll try this BIOS out on a test-T43 next.

I think Firefox blocks pop-ups by default, and that is what I run. The download link at that site still tried to run a .exe to install HotBar, granted I had to click on it. Nod32 popped up and said, hey wait you don't want to do this dummy, and promptly sent it to quarantine.

Here's the page. If you click on the big black 'download now' icon instead of the download link at the bottom of the page HotBar is on the way. It's typical of a sleezy website to pull this tactic. I was in a hurry and didn't even see the bottom link until it was too late. I saw the sentence, 'the download link is located below' , then I went 'click' on the 'download now' icon.

Funny, my screen looked like this, and I am not registered or anything!
But I do have Adblock Plus.

I am not registered either, so Adblockplus must be the difference. What is that, a firefox plugin?

^ Yes, it's an ad-on. I install it on every machine I have running Firefox. Does a really good job of blocking ads.

Done, it's been added. Is the 'easy list english' the best list to subscribe to? RBS, now that download page looks like your pic, so Adblockplus is the difference.

Yeah, I use 'easy list english'. BTW, most Firefox Ad-Ons including this one work with Chrome too, if that's your preference.

My 24hrs experience with modded T43p, everything works perfectly:

- all ports / docking works
- HDD Active Protection System works
- Samsung HM160HC has same performance, S.M.A.R.T. is excellent as before
- Windows 7 are quick as before, no troubles at all

Not noticed any side effects when using this mod.

Since people have mentioned AdBlock let me just throw a few other Firefox addon's out there for you to review:

NoScript
Ghostery
Flashblock

Combined with adblock these addon's not only speed up page rendering time (by not loading crap) they also help you determine who can and cannot run scripts on your machine, who can track you and so on. Don't be surprised if you install flashbock and see little "play" buttons everywhere. Those are blocked flash elements. You should note those you will see them a lot in the corners of sites where webmasters like to put there little 1x1 pixel scripts, and trackers.

Have fun out there. Don't click on anything I wouldn't.

Downloaded that file. AVG didn't find anything wrong.
When tried to install it to my T43, I got error message: BIOS update failed. New BIOS is not compatible with your current system BIOS.
Image
Everything seems to be working after first attempt, it just doesn't install the patch. Bios version is 1.29 which seems to be the latest for this machine.
What's causing this error. Do I have to downgrade or apply a mod to bios? Any ideas?

Win 7 and type 1871, if that matters.

I think it's caused by machine type. This modified BIOS only supports 26xx T43/p machines at this time. I guess you've 18xx machine T43 with Intel graphics?

Yep, it's with Intel graphics.
I was looking, but didn't saw any restriction on the type of machinery neither here or MDL forum.

I'm not worried because there's a version for 18xx machines.
Already downloaded and installed it. After one hour using i haven't noticed any malfunctioning, will report here as soon as something happens that might be related with mentioned bios patch.

Well, after a page full of Virus warnings and Firefox extension discussion, how many people have actually installed this?

Wait, are you doubting your own patch for this?

Edit:
Just installed this on my system (T43 running Win7). It said it flashed successfully. I powered down and back on to make sure my computer still worked.

I haven't tested the error code bypass yet (I have an approved Fujitsu 120 Gig drive). I can dig out a random 80 Gig WD drive later to see if gives an error.
