Thinkvision L220x

#1 Post by ninjaronin18 » Mon Sep 27, 2010 1:04 am

I have a Thinkvision L220x. I want to tilt the display and have it automatically change the orientation of the screen. I think it's possible. How do you do it?

You mean rotating the screen 90 degrees into portrait mode? You need to go into the video card's software and change the rotation settings, manually. It won't happen automatically.

UPDATE: My bad, I checked the specs of this monitor (http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/cgi-bi ... anguage=en) and learned that there's indeed a special software that enables an automatic switch from landscape to portrait. I thought it couldn't do that, because I had looked into this monitor in depth a few years back and didn't recall reading about this feature. So, the obvious thing for you to do is to obtain this software.

It can happen automatically the display has some gyroscope-based orientation sensor (don't know if this one does) and implements the particular DDC/CI instructions to communicate to the video card, and the driver has a setting to detect these instructions and trigger the rotate function.

I wouldn't know where to start looking if it is possible, and it's probably not worthwhile, when you can assign a simple shortcut key to trigger the rotation (in fact many drivers already come preconfigured with this set to Ctrl+Alt+Arrow keys).

So I installed soft OSD. It asks you to install an update. DO NOT install that update! Then, it worked for me. The only problem I'm having right now is when I tilt the screen, the orientation goes the wrong way so the picture is upside down.

Easy fix. All I did was unscrew the lcd panel off from the mount, rotated the screen, and then screwed it back on the mount. This worked well because now, the USB ports are still accessible on top when the screen is tilted.
