The DC cable that plugs into my 22P9021 (aka P/N 22P9003; 72W 16V AC/DC Combo adapter) has a label with the following:

ASM: 73P4509
FRU: 73P4510

You might be able to find one on eBay but it's a rare seller that only has the DC cord for sale. It's usually the AC/DC combo adapter and only the AC cord. I can only find these at the moment that has the DC cord:

Thanks, rkawakami,
I thought this would be good only for my T41 but the seller says it will be fine with my X31.
I'm guessing it wont work with an X60s.
Which do you use it with?

The 22P9021 outputs 16V so that means it can be used on T4x systems and most earlier systems (X31 included). So yes, it can't be used on the X60 (which requires 20V). For me, I use one for the T23, 600X and X22 systems.

Beware of condition, though I suppose that's applicable to most used items (even to clearout stock).

Mine is intermittent. As well, the connector into the brick is finicky, has to be fully inserted and tends to migrate out a bit.

BTW, compatibility depends on plug size, voltage, and polarity.

IBM/Lenovo sold me that unit for my basic x41, it should work for the very similar x40 series.

There is a higher power unit for some later models of Thinkpad.

I have a DC to adapter cord that worked with an adapter for my T42p. I can't find any identification. It has the usual cigarette lighter plug and on the end that goes into the adapter it has a barrel female with four holes for pins to enter. Is that the style of the adapter you have?

The DC cord I have has a DIN style connector, keyed top (recess) and bottom (projection), four sockets (bottom and top pairs have slightly different spacing).

I’ve figured out how to get the DIN connector apart, when I probe further to understand the connection within it between terminals, and get it back together successfully, I’ll try to post instructions. It is not intended to be repairable - , some bent-inward tabs have to be released and one of those requires a very small screwdriver to get behind it.

Note that the cable is designed to mate with a four-contact socket in an airplane seat, the automotive cigar lighter end detaches to expose the airplane connector.

Part of the problem with mine is right at the individual pin-socket interface with the power brick, but I suspect the cable also has a problem (difficult to troubleshoot as it is very difficult to keep it all completely static except for the one area I want to wiggle to see if the light on the brick dims or goes off).

This will keep me busy. ;-)

I know that this is an old conversation, but I recently made up a D/C cable for my 22P9003 / FRU 22P9021 Thinkpad adapter and thought I would provide some information on it to save someone else the research time.

I used a Kycom Snap and Lock Power Cable DC connector, manufacturer's part number KPJX-CM-4S to plug into the DC connector on the power brick. I got this from Mouser Electronics - their part number is 806-KPJX-CM-4S. Cost was about $4.70, shipping another $5.

For the automobile lighter plug side, I used a Bell Accessory Plug and Cord 39047-8 obtained from Pep Boys. Cost about $6.

I soldered the two together, observing that looking at the prong-hole side of the plug, with the two smaller holes on top, that the positive pins were the pair on the right side, ground pins the pair on the left.

I got to admit that I wish I could have found a source for the cable itself, but now at least I can keep my T43 charged up while I am out stealing someone's WiFi signal whilst parked in the car!
