Hello everybody,.........my first post here.

I received a R52 from a friend.

First thing is that the model no. as printed is 1860 AB6, but in the BIOS it says 1858 A77.

However I went ahead and did a OS (XP) reload to suit my needs.
Also downloaded and updated all the drivers, and the BIOS as well.
But I got a persistent "unknown device" (only one device) indication in the 'device manger'.

After a lot of checking I noticed the IEEE1934 port, and loaded the TPM driver.
But halfway thru while loading the driver the system froze, and I had to shut down the system.
Tried it again after rebooting, but the same thing happened again.

Prepared a DOS-CD for PC-Doctor, and booted with it.
While checking, the IEEE1934 thing came out as "N/A".

Ultimately, refered to the HManual, and opened the thing up to check if the IEEE1934 cable was undone.
Yes, it was hanging loose and unconnected, but I also found that there was no place to connect it up.
I mean there was no jack protruding from the MBoard to receive the cable!

My question is:-

1) Is it a MB change case ? My friend says it has never been repaired. But I found the HDD screw and another two missing.
2) If the mother board dose not have IEEE1934 thing, then why it is reacting by placing a "unknown device" mark ?
3) Is it something wrong I am doing ?
4) Is it some other device ?

Many thanks in advance to all.

Aditya

Welcome to the forum.
1) your motherboard was exchanged for one without Firewire(1394)
2) the unknown device is something else (more later)
3) no
4) yes
To solve this, install/run this program: Unknown Device Identifier http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html
Also, you may need to install the Intel Chipset drivers: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-58627

If that still fails, install TVSU 3.14 for Windows XP and run that: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... PDATE.html

Hi RealBlackStuff,

The "Unknown Device Identifier" didn't find anything wrong.

The Intel Chipset 4 was already installed.
However I reinstalled it, but no results.

Lenovo System Updater 3.14 also was already there. But I haven't reinstall it however.

Actually my system is completely uptodate, both from Microsoft, and IBM(Lenovo) sites.
It is XP SP3, Dotnet3.5 SP1 also.

What is the hardware ID of the unknown device in device manager? (Advanced properties)

If you check the Device Manager/Properties from that "unknown device", it should give you some information about a vendor.
What does it say?

Hi,

In the drop down list there is no mention of the word vendor.

You need to install the TPM driver for that: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-58656

Sorry for the delayed reply.

Actually I had tried the TPM driver installation which ended up in freezing the PC.
This I had also mentioned in the OP.

In that case, learn to live with the missing device, or reinstall Windows from scratch.
