Size difference between 3-cell and 6-cell battery on X121e?

#1 Post by LondonConsultant » Fri Aug 19, 2011 8:15 am

I am thinking of ordering a ThinkPad X121e, but haven't been able to find out the physical size difference (if any) between the 3-cell 31Whr and 6-cell 62Whr battery. I wonder if anyone knows? I read that a 6-cell battery used to stick out on the older X100/X120 machines but doesn't on the X121e, so wondered if the X121e's 3-cell and 6-cell batteries are the same physical size (even if the 6-cell is 0.15kg heavier)....
ThinkPad X121e (Core i3 1.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Win7 Pro64)
MacBook Pro (Core i7 2.2GHz, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15"HR)

Have now had X121e with Core I3 for 2 weeks. Used X41 for several years

X121e 6 cell battery is flush with rear of chassis. Does not stick out like X41 battery. 5-6 hours battery life with 6 cell. Cannot see how 3 cell can be a different size.

Biggest diff with X41 is the widescreen display. All my spreadsheets fit onto 1280x1024 display. The 1360x760 display cuts off bottom of data that could be seen on x41.

The 11.6 inch screen also takes a little getting used to if you are used to bigger screens.

The keyboard is subtly different but I'm now getting used to it. Although had to disable trackpoint as fingers keep resting on it. The keys I miss the most are next to the arrow keys, which navigated the last/next web page. They have now become page up and down

Seems well built and robust. Have not got used to latch free opening. Nothing obvious to get hold of to open the screen. However a pretty minor gripe.

For the price cannot see a better buy for a travelling companion. Cannot see benefit of Win7 Pro on the laptop.
