A31p UXGA flexview screen - browns with age?

#1 Post by Mipmap » Thu Aug 25, 2011 4:50 pm

So I've collected a few A31p's over the past year and most of them have this brownish tint in the lower right corner, particularly noticeable when the screen is full white. One even has this effect around all four edges. Kind of like an old piece of paper :)

Just curious, anyone know what causes this?

Thanks,
Erik

I have that issue on an A30 (half inch brownish color all around the screen edges), since my screen flickers when first turned on I figure the backlight is going.

Darkness in the lower corners of the screen is common on FlexViews, especially on ID Tech panels, which are present on most A30p and A31p units that we find today. The same problem plagues R50p/T42p/T43p IPS-equipped units. It points to a backlight that is past its prime in most cases.

An overall "brownish" or "yellowish" tint is usually due to an aging polarizer, and unlike the CCFL issue there is no fix for it.

The A31p in my signature sports an original DBU panel with a new backlight and the corners are as bright as the rest of the panel.
