R50e Dead - Completely

#1 Post by sef-75 » Sun Sep 04, 2011 8:41 am

Hello and greetings from the UK to all - new here to what looks a great and friendly forum, though not new to IBM Thinkpads having had several now including projects!

Looking for any assistance please with anything more to try on an R50e 1834-S5G.

It is completely dead - nothing, no green LEDs or noises upon connecting the PSU (known good) and pressing power on. It is exactly the same with a known good and charged battery (from another PC). Also when connected to the PSU there is no battery charge LED of any colour.

I have tried removing both RAM, DVD drive, wireless card, back up battery and reseated processor and fan. It is exactly the same. I am suspecting something major on the systemboard? :(

Thanks for any assistance!

If you have removed everything (RAM, wifi, modem, hard drive (maybe optical drive), and you still hear no beeps 1-3-3-1, you board is as dead as a Dodo.
Motherboard replacement is the only option.
But look at T60/R60 models instead, these are quite cheap nowadays and have better specs than your R50e, which is a rather crippled version within the T4x/R5x series.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
