Hi all, this is my first post.
I have a T43 running Windows XP and I've began getting a Kernel stack error on a blue screen, quickly followed by a restart which takes me to a black screen which runs a test and then says NO BOOTNAME FILE RECEIVED and OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND.
I can provide more details if you wish, but right now I'm just hurrying to fire off this post before it shuts me down again.
Hope someone can tell me the nature of the problem or what is required to fix it.
Nice to meet y'all, look forward to your replies.
Johnny

Re: T43 Kernel stack error
Welcome to the thinkpad forum.
Have you changed the boot-sequence in BIOS to start from network first?
Press F12 from a cold-boot and see if the HDD is still in the boot selection menu.
Maybe the hard disk crashed...
Have you got a USB enclosure to put the T43 HDD in and see if it can be accessed from another computer?

Re: T43 Kernel stack error
Hi, thank you for replying so quickly!
I will check the boot sequence and report back my findings. Unfortunately I don't have a USB Enclosure.
Interestingly, since the problem developed, if I give a firm tap to the underside of the laptop, it always starts ok.
Thanks again

No point in checking further.
Your motherboard is suffering from a loose Southbridge chip.
Go to www.reflowrepairs.co.uk to read more about the problem.
Then contact Nick at that website to discuss a possible repair.
