TP760EL question RE: software reinstall

#1 Post by joester » Tue Nov 08, 2011 12:18 am

It's been a while since I played with some of the older TP's, and recent acquisition of a 760EL with software issues has me stumped.

The OS needs re-installed but the start menu does not include the option of booting from CD. Short of installing the HDD in another TP to boot, format, install and return to the 760, is there any way to force it to use the CD?

TIA,
Joe

Back in the day when I ran a 560 as my main machine, I used a PCMCIA based CD-Rom. It has a driver disc (3.5" floppy). If I recall correctly, this is the procedure I used:

1. Format drive /s using Windows 95/98/ME boot floppy.
2. Install driver for CD drive.
3. Run Windows disc from CD drive.

Perhaps there is a DOS driver for the onboard CD drive?

look for "smart bootmanager"
booted from a floppy, it renders your CD drive bootable
the way up and the way down are the same (heraclitus)
