HOW TO GET THE "NEWEST" BIOS
Note: to enter BIOS, power off the machine and turn it on while holding F1.
1)
Download this file and burn it to a CD - the md5sum should be 076aca85557ff5d33a7a563bad08b1fd:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X12QAHIG
2)
Enter BIOS. Choose Config > Network and make sure that "Flash" is enabled.
Also make sure that CD is your first boot option.
3)
Insert the disk and boot from it. Press enter until you get an "A:" prompt.
4)
type "FLASH2 /u", minus the quotation marks ONCE to let the BIOS update.
5)
Reboot the machine to BIOS, choose Config > Initialize and reboot again - you should now have the last BIOS that was released for this machine!
There is no guarantee whatsoever - all I can say is that this worked for me, without a floppy drive and without Windows.

Re: The official 770 Upgrade and general information Topic
Here's a mirror of the file: http://kristian.users.anapnea.net/ibmbi ... dos622.iso
- would be nice if someone else could host it too, just in case.

Re: 770 BIOS Upgrade from CD instead of Floppy
Hi Kristian-770, and a belated welcome to the Forum!
Thanks for putting this CD iso together and for sharing it with the forum.
I've split this topic off from the general upgrade thread because it is specific to a specific model, and because I'm trying to keep that thread somewhat focussed so that it doesn't become too long for someone to read through.
It would be helpful for others if you indicate the exact models of Thinkpad that this works for, and, ideally, if you provide details on which exact BIOS it contains. You might even link back to the official version of this BIOS so that people who were thinking of using it would know whether their 770 machine will work with it. Various 770 models (the 770/770E/D, the 770X and the 770Z) take different BIOSes, and it is always good to reference the exact BIOS version, rather than saying that it is simply the "newest".
Phil.

Re: 770 BIOS Upgrade from CD instead of Floppy
Hi Phil,
Thanks for the welcome.
Alas, it is not me who have made the CD image. It should be based on this file:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... sdid38.exe
AKA IDET38WW.
I can only say that it worked like a charm on my 770(regular). I believe similar ISO's could be made for other BIOS'es, but my technical skills are not sufficient.
Kristian
