Cool off a hot X60s, or not?

#1 Post by John H » Sun Dec 18, 2011 4:07 pm

I use my X60s SO much that it tends to get hot. Should I cool it off with a blue-ice pack underneath, or should I "suspend" and wait a while? Or should I just leave it alone? Maybe it's best to just let it run hot and not go thru extra cooling and heating cycles.

When was the last time you cleaned out the dust from the fan, and replaced the thermal paste with Arctic Silver 5?
Makes quite a difference!
I have the exact same machine. Replaced the wifi card with an Intel 6200N (and matching 1/2 size adapter), and the whole laptop is considerable cooler.
Icing on the cake was the Patriot SSD I put in instead of the hard disk.
I now get 8-1/2 to 9 hours on one (extended) battery load.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
