Cautious AC Power Adapter Question...

#1 Post by robert213 » Fri Dec 23, 2011 5:36 pm

Awhile back I purchased a used T61 8895-W14.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... D=PD005926
says:
Thinkpad 65 Watt AC Adapter 40Y7696 92P1155
Thinkpad 90 Watt AC Adapter 40Y7659 92P1106
The store shipped a Lenovo 65W 20V 92P1213 92P1214.

I would guess that the 65W is correct.

Is 20V correct for my T61?

Yes, you need 20V for a T60/T61 and up.
65W for TPs with Intel graphics
90W for the rest, but can also be used for Intel gfx.

If you want a 90w, I have some new, like new, and good used. The 65w is nice too and can be used on discrete graphic models, they seem to be able to charge the battery and run the unit at the same time without a problem, and they are nice for travel as they are much smaller, but if you're using usb powered devices or docking station, then 90w is a must.

Little lecture on electricity --

As long as the voltage is correct, you will not fry your card. The wattage, 90/65, is regarding the charge time, the amount of electricity possible to be pushed through the battery. You shouldn't do less than required because it's possible that it will not charge (uses more electricity than the adapter can produce -- although fine for when off) and it could add strain.

More is better. The computer will regulate how many watts to use -- even if it is rated _up to_ x watts.

I have 3 adapters for my T61p -- two are the correct 90W adapters, the other is the smaller 65W adapter that came with the used dock I bought.

I spend most of my time on battery or hooked up to one of the 90W adapters, but I can't say I've seen any problem using the 65W adapter--it seems to charge the battery fine during light use, though clearly not as quickly as the 90W adapters... I keep it in the bedroom for nighttime surfing, when I certainly don't care about charge speed.

Hi, new here

I have a 7659 A92 T61, and want to buy an additional adapter. I saw a 93p5026 on my city, will it be right? I saw that it's 20V 4,5A, but my 92p1157 says 20V 3,25A

I dont want to fry my laptop, can i buy it?

Regards

Your machine has integrated Intel graphics.
The 20V 4.5A is the 90W version, always good.
The 20V 3.25A is the 65W version for integrated Intel graphics.
If I were you, given the choice, I'd buy the 90W.

The 65w adapter is actually nice if you travel, it's much smaller and will suffice even on a discrete graphics model, as long as it's not used often with a very low battery, or forced to run a lot of usb devices. I used to use the 65w when I travelled, but now use the 90w slim AC/DC adapter that has car and airplane adapters. Any of the three will work though, but for stationary use the 90w is by far the better choice.
