It might be maxed out, but it is still 6 year old hardware or so. To each his own, it's definitely cool though!

That one seemed nice, and included a lot of good extras, like the original screen. The owner put a lot of thought into maxing it out in a very sensible manner.

For those of you whose eyes can tolerate QXGA (I've tried it twice and it's no-go at least until I'm done with my Lasik) go for it - build your own - it will definitely cost you less...

My thoughts on this: if, as widely expected, Apple is going to announce a QXGA iPad today, it might push other manufacturers to increase the resolutions on their devices. Despite years of being told "there is no market for hi-res hi-quality displays", the moment Apple decides to do so everyone else will be falling over each other to offer hi-res panel options

Inexplicable! Maybe if it had an Intel GPU T61 mobo, better CPU, larger SSD and 8GB of RAM. A new keyboard would be nice, too!

It may be QXGA resolution, but it will be like the iPhone. It has the retina display, but the icons and such are the same size as the original iPhone. Few can probably read a 10.1" QXGA LCD at its native resolution.

The iPhone/iPad both run their LCDs at native resolution. It's just that the UI is resolution independent(ish.) Modern versions of Windows can support high-DPI displays too, as can Linux.

The "high resolution == tiny text" thing hasn't been really been true for a couple years now.

Im planing on maxing out one of my T61's and sell it for +$800!!!

Save yourself time and aggravation, not to mention $$$$.

Unless you're intent on having a maxed-out T61 for your own needs (nothing wrong with that) all of the above will be a waste...no T61 changes hands for that amount of money, unless it filled with something *very* illegal...

Adding "i put some weed under the keyboard" should do the trick!

It is not only the absolutely rare combination together with the QXGA screen which finally makes the difference. If you consider that hunting for and purchasing one of these screens consumes some time and effort, which together with the final assembly of the machine does deserve its own remuneration, than this is not really out of this world. Custom made goods come with custom efforts, and therefore definitely merit a custom price.

Been there, done that: I have built two T61+ Frankenpads, each with 8GB of RAM, a T9500 CPU on an actual Penryn-Board, and both prominently featuring a brand new BOE Hydis UXGA IPS display. It may be not as rare as a QXGA display, but has the added advantage of being very much brighter, yet it also has become increasingly harder to find one of these. Considering all the effort and money i had to invest in getting all the parts and finally putting together these machines, i finally decided to not sell any of these and rather keep them for my own usage pleasure (with one of them stashed away as a fallback).

Nobody would ever understand why paying a premium price for such a machine with even an obvious used look from the outside, while housing some perfect innards, would ever be justified, simply because nobody is aware about the efforts the creator of this fine Frankenpad had to make. Personally i have come to the conclusion that i would never forgive myself for selling any of these gorgeous machines and having to go through all the hassle again to finally assemble a pretty much ideal (for me) T61+ again. Unfortunately, being used to cheaply machine manufactured goods, consumers have forgotten to value the time spend with manual labour, simply because work time has unfortunately become a rather undervalued commodity and a matter of cheap foreign work slaves in our industrialized age.

There are things money just can't buy, or which can only be bought with really lots and lots of money.

I quite like like the "sleeper" aspect of what's going on here with these upgraded old beasts--my T61p looks dated enough and has just enough patina to show that it's been carefully taken out and about for most of its (almost) 4 year life, while still smoking any brand new laptop without an SSD at most tasks... I get to enjoy using a zippy machine, and my clients don't get to think they're paying me too much :D

If you value your time, and such an offering represents exactly what you want, and you're not the sort of person who finds tracking down bits and assembling them "fun" (as I do...), then the $1250 makes sense... that said, I would consider a T61 board (therefore the ability to run 8GB of ram and SATA-II) an absolute necessity--I abhor waiting for my computer...

First, that is way too overpriced for T61p. Brand new Sandy Bridge T420 can be found at $750+.

In case you are still interested, there are T61 boards with/without CPU's running for $100-$150 on feebay now. I think I can finally upgrade my [wife's now] T60 to a proper T61. From there I can begin the 8GB RAM, SATA-II, etc. I don't mind the Intel. I have a broken T61 with NVS 140M sitting here that only works on external display.

15" QXGA is by far the best monitor I have used. Too bad my wife just keeps zooming in text. I like the PPI ratio very much. Only issue I might see (not issue to me), is that display is slightly dimmer for what you may expect. Great nevertheless. My X220 IPS can't even compare.
