X60, model 1707. The service manual lists:
Hydis 13N7094
Hydis 42T0435
Samsung 13N7096
CMO 42T0343
All I find is "compatible" or "OEM compatible" screens, no matter where I look. Anyone ever had to get a replacement? Are the "compatible" screens really the same brightness as the factory screen? Any suggestions/good luck/bad luck stories?
Physically changing the screen is no problem for me - I've done it plenty of times on other laptops. I just haven't had to source a screen for this particular model. Don't want to do anything stupid.
TIA...

Re: X60 LCD Screen Replacement Help, Please
Katiedawg,
You list 4 different models from 3 manufacturers.
Any one single of those models is "compatible" with the other 3.
And at any given time, it wouldn't make sense for LCD retailers to carry all 4 models you have listed, since they are perfectly interchangeable.
We currently carry a BOEhydis display, which IS compatible with the 4 models you have listed, but is not an exact model match.
There is a very common misconception that the world is filled with counterfeit LCD screens,
which dishonest sellers in Asia are manufacturing in their basements.
They sure wish they could, however, alas it is still impossible,
since LCD manufacturing requires resources of international conglomerates to get going.
Currently 99% of LCD screens in laptops are made by Samsung, LG Phillips, AU Optronics and ChiMei Optronics.
They all license each others patents, and all their products are built to specific standards,
ensuring that all LCD screens are (mostly) compatible with each other.
When purchasing from LCD retailers it's always a good idea to ask the exact model number they would ship with your order,
which you can then look up on-line for spec sheets and/or overviews.

Ellis
