Win 8 CP on an X61T
My brief experiences are mainly positive.
I actually put the older win7 video driver on to clear a OpenGL error, and the sierra 3g watcher on WWAN duty, so 95% of things work, however I've had no luck with the tablet buttons, tried the Win7 drivers installed normally and in compatablility mode...
Has anyone else tried it on their X61T? and if so had any just with the tablet buttons/screen rotation?

I tried W8 CP on my X61T also, but pen / finger touch do not work, even after updates.
Did you installed any drivers to make it work?
Tablet buttons / sreen rotation do not work also.
However my first impression is good, dual boot works fine, metro looks good on tablet pc!

Re: Win 8 CP on an X61T
I just did windows update I think, maybe I did install the Pen/Touch drivers from lenovo I can't quite remember, but I didn't have to try too hard as I recall!
So Pen and Touch work perfectly, just the tablet buttons/screen rotation..
Same I think it looks like a really nice OS for the tablets, just wish I could afford a X220T

Re: Win 8 CP on an X61T
Slight update,
On my X60T the tablet buttons do work in Win8 CP, On my X61T they don't - this seems a bit wierd? (I've installed the drivers..)
The right alt+arrows work, but only if you downgrade the intel driver to the one for Win7

Re: Win 8 CP on an X61T
Folks, W8 is in a pre-beta testing stage, and won't even be sold for another 6-8 months.
Who gives a f... if something works or not?
Stop moaning and go back to a working OS, like XP or W7.

Clearly the OP does, which is the reason for the post.
Some of us are interested in these findings: one answer might be at least one other member of the forum does because I certainly do.

Re: Win 8 CP on an X61T
My limited experience is that the fact that something works in the beta version of a MS OS, doesn't mean in the least that it will continue to work in the final product. Not by a long shot. Vice versa applies as well.
With that said, in W8 CP tablet buttons do not work on my pen-only SXGA+ X61T (7769-A67), not in any shape or form. The pen works. Everything else works from what I can tell, after applying all the applicable Windows updates. YMMV.

Re: Win 8 CP on an X61T
Seems like thats normal for now then, odd that it works on the X60T, but not the X61T, still beta OS, old drivers, fair enough.
One other thing I've noiced, its quite tricky to use the UI with stylus only once the machines are in desktop mode - you can't bring up the little start sqare in the corner as the stylus doesn't register as a hover over.
So you have to pull in the charms bar to get back to the start screen....

The pen-only screen reacts different from the (rare) touch-screen.
Pen-only is not suited for W8 (or rather v.v. ).

Re: Win 8 CP on an X61T
I've had no luck with the tablet buttons. everything else works fine on my x61t unit with windows 8 pro.
win7 driver to fix opengl error.
my unit has no wwan or bt installed so thats no issue.
stylus worked fine from the start. full support.
my only issue is WEI test gets stuck on direct3d 10 texture test

What do you prefer, Win 8 or Win 7 on the X61T (stylus only model)?

Re: Win 8 CP on an X61T
and so...
1 . download the file tabletbutton for win 7 32bit or 64 bit on support.lenovo.com
2 . unpack, but not the installer
3 . open a device manager
4 . find the keyboard device
5 . open it and we update the keyboard driver in the manual way.
6 . specify folder where the unpacked drivers....
ALSO THERE WILL BE TO YOU A HAPPINESS.
everything works for me...

Re: Win 8 CP on an X61T
I have to agree with this it is actually really annoying to navigate through the interface. To truly appreciate Win8 you need multi-touch capabilities hardware.RealBlackStuff wrote:The pen-only screen reacts different from the (rare) touch-screen.
Pen-only is not suited for W8 (or rather v.v. ).
Apart from that it ran smooth and very responsive with stock Win8 drivers. I also found it easier to have the onscreen keyboard for whatever.
Another thing I was never able to get the rotate button to work no matter the driver.
UPDATE

Re: Win 8 CP on an X61T
I recently picked up an X61T, and have Windows 7 nicely configured just the way I like it on here.
Then I thought I would try Windows 8. I made it so far as making my bootable USB flash drive, got my license key and booted up. But then I powered off and removed the USB key, and rebooted back into Windows 7. I told myself to check around on the web and see of other people had installed W8 on an X61T and what their experiences were.
I really, really love Windows 7 Pro. It's lean, mean, and efficient. Everything I have been reading about W8 and W8.1 are that minus the Metro/ModernUI kulduge, it is fast and less resource hungry than Windows 7. So given how nicely it runs on my X61T, I really wanted to try it out.
But I will wait a bit longer as everything is working nicely. The machine is fast, everything works and I am all settled in with my programs and data. All I have left to do is migrate about 20GB of .PST files from my old laptop over to this and then my X61T will be my primary computing device. I have only had this machine for a few days, but I have already fallen in love with it.
