Dropped my T20, want to fix it

#1 Post by matty » Fri Jun 11, 2004 5:37 pm

My T20 took a bad fall. I really want to fix it (put linux on it, second computer etc...)

So, my question is, how many of you have done this?
The problem with it is that the display only shows the top left corner of the desktop. I assume this is a problem with the video/motherboard. I think the screen is probably fine.

So, If i swap out the motherboard, will it be OK? I guess i need to test the screen first.

Today I bought a T21 for $550 (800Mhz 512MB 32GB CDRW SXGA). I want to try and plug the display of my T20 to the T21 to test it. (on a side note, I didn't know that T21's could get SXGA)

So I'm looking for a little advice, and specifically, can I purchase any T series motherboard as a replacement?

thanks,
Matt

That assumption may be premature. Have you tried to connect an external monitor? If that works then it's probably the LCD assembly that's broken.

Matt,

First thing to do on your T20 is open it up and reseat the video cables, both on the MB and the display.

No, the T20 XGA display will NOT work if you connect it to the SXGA+ T21! Different cables.

Do you have the HMM: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4UYM3F

Any T20 or T21 MB will fit your case.

James

actually the display connector, and my CDRW is busted. Every time i stick it in, it beeps. I didn't know CDRW's beeped! maybe its just the system board getting mad because the cdrw is busted.
Oh well, Ebay here i come for a new CDRW.
