UXGA Screen from T43p to T60 with SXGA+
Hello,
I recently purchased a Thinkpad T60 with a 15'' SXGA+ Flexview screen and I am interested in replacing it with a UXGA 15'' screen from a T43p. I am wondering it this would be a drop in upgrade.

I don't think the T43p screen would have the EDID chip needed to run in the T60.

Re: UXGA Screen from T43p to T60 with SXGA+
That is what I am concerned about. Can I get some more clarification of it being a drop in upgrade if possible? I don't want to flash the screen.

Re: UXGA Screen from T43p to T60 with SXGA+
If it's a late T43p, it may already have the EDID flashed. If not, the chip should be there but you have to flash it (usually not a big deal).

Re: UXGA Screen from T43p to T60 with SXGA+
A few threads on this forum is discussing such an upgrade, and for more information I suggest you do a little research within the issue of "EDID" and T6x/R6x ThinkPad's - see e.g. the thread 15" Flexview UXGA screen for sale and more specificly from this post and onwards and the thread possible to swap r51 flexview into a t60? and Turning my 14" t60p into a 15" with flexview. Possible? especially this post where you will find a link to a modification done by expert-forum.thinkpads.com member AlexeyTolstyh, explaining how you can modify a R5x/p or a T4x/p panel for use in a T60.

Re: UXGA Screen from T43p to T60 with SXGA+
Some of the *very* late T43p units were shipped with a Hydis 13N7076 panel, the exact same one that was originally used in T60p. That's plug & play. Everything else will likely need an EDID fix.

How can this be true - if you by this mean swapping that the complete T43p lid with panel and latches, hinges etc. to the T60?? The hinges on 15" T4x/p's are different from the hinges on 15" T60/p's!ajkula66 wrote:Some of the *very* late T43p units were shipped with a Hydis 13N7076 panel, the exact same one that was originally used in T60p. @ Derkach99:
In order to find out exactly what UXGA panel is in your T43p (assuming that the panel is the same as the one originally shipped by IBM, at the time of delivery of the T43p), you may make a Parts Lookup - see how to do this in e.g. the thread Why does Lenovo's "Parts Lookup" site not (always) work?? - one of the methods there will hopefully/probably work.
PS: Before going on with this upgrade/swap, I suggest that you carefully check the T43p LCD for defects (incl. dust specs, dead or stuck pixels, weak or ageing CCFL etc.). You may use the free and very good tool Dead Pixel Buddy to do this.

I think it's pretty obvious that George had meant that just the LCD is plug&play, not the entire lid.Johan wrote:How can this be true - if you by this mean swapping that the complete T43p lid with panel and latches, hinges etc. to the T60??

Re: UXGA Screen from T43p to T60 with SXGA+
I dont have the T43 screen on hand.
I am currently looking at this ebay listing:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/180704981701?ssP ... 1423.l2649
The seller informed me that it will work in a T60 but I am unsure of that.

Unless the seller can verify and state in writing that you'll be getting a Hydis panel, count on playing with EDID to get it working in a T60.
Not to mention that "whites which are pink on startup" which he stated points to a bad CCFL...stay away from that listing, you'll do much better in the Marketplace here on the forum, when it comes to quality of the goods purchased.

^ good catch (wasn't hard to find that though)
Interesting comment here I saw from that sale:
"when warm - colors are normal (common peculiarity for thinkpads)"
I'd say stay away from that auction as well. Mainly based on the description of the white are slightly pink on startup, as that is only going to get worse at the panel ages.

Definitely stay away from that listing. Dying CCFL represented as common peculiarity, wrong picture (showing a 14" lid) - I'm not filled with trust towards the seller.
If you don't already have the screen - why not just get an original UXGA from a T60p? Why bother hunting for the "right" T43p LCD, risking the EDID problem?

Re: UXGA Screen from T43p to T60 with SXGA+
I have not purchased this screen. I am trying to find a new or slightly used screen for a fair price. I see new UXGA screens for T60s but they are worth $200 plus. Also I think I will stay away from that screen.

Re: UXGA Screen from T43p to T60 with SXGA+
NOS Hydis will run you $200 or thereabouts, but it's the newest screen you can find for that machine.
You can pick up a good ID Tech for under $100, but you'll have to flash the EDID.

I am not sure how to flash an EDID. I am going to try and stay away from that if possible.

Re: UXGA Screen from T43p to T60 with SXGA+
I know that mine has an IDTech panel, and I've had multiple ones of these that all had the EDID. While the T4x series does not need an EDID chip and thus many stock LCDs did not have one, it is not unreasonable for a stock LCD to still have on as the T4x simply ignores it. I have used a T43p 15" UXGA panel and an R50p UXGA panel, both IDTech, and they work without any issues in my T60p. I have never flashed an EDID chip before.
Just my 2 cents.
