X230 HD+ and old KB mockup

#1 Post by yak » Sat May 19, 2012 11:29 am

Just to see how HD+ resolution would compare against HD on X230.

Image

Left: HD (1366x768, 125.38 ppi)
Right: HD+ (1600x900, 146.86 ppi)

Updated
The one on the right also has the old keyboard.

Note that X230 having HD+ option is still a speculation at this point.

IMHO, the pixel density on HD+ isn't something crazy and Lenovo could consider providing this option.

Hey thanks for posting this - I think it's one of the hardest things to try and get a handle on when considering a new machine and choosing between various screen resolutions. I think something like your mock up for each model / resolution combo as they are released (e.g.., T430@1366x768, T430@1600x900 and T530@1366x768, T530@1600x900, T530@1920x1080, etc) would be a great sticky for the forum.

Very good. :thumbs-UP:

Indeed 1600x900 on 12.5" is the same DPI as 1920x1200 on 15.4". If you could stand the latter, you can stand the former. :)

Honestly, if X230 had IPS HD+, I would buy it in a second even with the new keyboard. If the key travel and feel is as good as people claim, I can get used to the new layout.

But here it is (the first post has been updated to include the keyboard mockup in one picture with the screen):
Image
I left the new TrackPoint buttons, it didn't look good with the old ones.
And the screen is in HD+ of course :)
The keyboard is from this T420s picture.
The lighting doesn't relly match but you can get the general idea.

I updated the picture in first post so you can compare the keyboards side-by-side.

Just for fun, here's how X230 would look like with FullHD 13.3" IPS panel from ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31.

Wow, I want that. Back to the days when bezels were still thin.

There might be a Full HD IPS which is compatible with the X230. Panel name is LG Philips LP125WF1.
Daily: Custom Mini-ITX (Ryzen 5, A2000 12GB, 3:2)
ThinkPads: 600X (i3), A31p (FlexView), T43, T60 (FlexView), T61p (4:3), R61 (QXGA), X301 (AFFS), W500, X1
