T4x wanted

#1 Post by McSummation » Fri May 25, 2012 5:33 pm

My trusty T41 died. I would like a T41, T42, or T43 to replace it. I don't need a working HDD, optical, NIC, battery, nor charger as all of mine work properly. Just the mobo died. But, I would rather not dig into the guts to replace the mobo. I would rather have a working case/mobo/keyboard/pointer/LCD combination.

FYI, a hard drive swap between any T40/p, T41/p or T42/p works perfectly after any required driver updates. You can even use any R50 or R51. Swapping a T41 drive into a T43 really doesn't work well (if at all). A different Windows HAL is required. (You can Google Windows HAL to find out more.)

I may be able to help. I have a barebones T40. Type 2373-MU1. Let me know if this works for you and we'll go from there. The keyboard may not be up to snuff.

I thank all you folks that have responded to my request.

I have a friend that has a T43 and I am going to borrow it and see if I can generate a working system using my HDD with modifications (HAL, display, WiFi, etc.). Then I will know whether to go with a T43 or a T41/42. Hopefully, I can borrow his machine early next week.

Edit: It turns out that his is a T42 so I can't do my T41->T43 experiment. T41 replacement is on order.

I now have a working T41. Thanks to all who responded to my request.

I think I'll take the old one apart and see if I can revive it using the "heat it up" tutorial.
