X200 broadband options

#1 Post by ov_Darkness » Thu Sep 22, 2011 4:46 pm

Because there's now possibility to have free-of-charge HSPA+/LTE in Poland (256kbps ntohing fancy, but still...), I've started looking for compatible WWAN module. (SIM cardes are quite picky):

1. F3507g is NOT working
2. F3607GW is confirmed working
3. F5521gw not known (should work)

As the latter costs 2-3 times as much as the other two there is the question: will the working WWAN's work with my x200?Or maybe there are any Aero2 users with x201's or X220's from Warsaw willing to help? (

Czescz, I'd check your polish mobile network - which frequencies/bands they use and compare it to the card you're about to buy not all cards support all necessary LTE bands. Another hint - you can modify your bios to unlock your laptop to use any wwan card you want. I successfuly use my x200 with a Sierra card from x60s and now Gobi 2000.

F3507g is supposed to work while F5521gw is compatible with X220 only.

BTW the free-of-charge HSPA+/LTE is available in Poland in general ?

@marYn: I know for a fact that 3607 wil work with this SIM Cards. Do you know, where can I find modified BIOS'es or HOWTO for doing it myself?

@Puppy:
nothing as cool. The goverment agency, wich sells concessions for spectrum bands expects that Aero2 (part of Zygmunt's Solorz-Żak media empire) wich've buyed concession will give free-of-charge public internet access for three years after reaching 75% coverage with HSPA+ 900MHz and 50% coverage with LTE 2.6GHz.

Of course Aero2 doesn't wan't too much users - they limit bandwidth to 256kbps (512kbps in near future), list of modems, that work with specific configuration of this network is very short (not every HSPA+ 900MHz enabled device will work), the modems shoud be at least class 10 HSPA+ devices or class 3 TD-LTE devices.
There's 20PLN (about 4.5 EUR) caution for SIM card and the wait time about one month.

Detailed info is available here http://www.aero2.pl/bdi.html (polish only)

HSPA+ coverage
May 2011(224kB)
Prognosed for 30.12.2011 (15MB jpeg!!)

Oh, and LTE is virtually non existent.
They have 1.8GHz commercial LTE but very limited data packets (max 25GB/month)

Hello,
Which card with Gobi2000 (or simillar) is easy to use in X200s?
If there is BIOS hack needed where can I find it?

Now I have F3507g but it is not working with Aero2.

The F3507g doesn't support 3G on the 900MHz band, so it won't do you any good with Aero2.

Cheers,

X200 broadband options - F3607gw not working

#10 Post by BigCatAndy » Fri Jun 01, 2018 2:02 am

Hello everybody,

I hope, I found correct thread to place my question. I recently bought X200s with WWAN upgrade Options, and later bought at eBay WWAN Card Ericcson F3607gw with Toshiba logo. Unfortunatelly, this Card is not accepted by the BIOS - 1804 or 1802 error. So, I had to remove it.

In this thread you say, the F3607gw is known as working. Which Options do I have to make my card working? I know 2:
- BIOS modification
- taping of the pin 20

Can anyone give me a hint on it?

Thanks in advance,
Andrey

Apart from this, it's never a good idea to necro-post (i.e. posting in a thread that has not been updated for many (6 in this case) years).

Hello, thanks for the hint. So, you recommend BIOS update...
I know, this thread is quite old, but I had to choose between posting same question again or necro-post. :-) Both is not perfect. And thanks, that you nevertheless helped me.

Andrey
