T61 model:7659-A96 compatible with penryn?

#1 Post by Vonfeffer » Wed Aug 01, 2012 6:37 pm

Does anybody here knows if my T61 is compatible with the Penryn processors? How can I tell which is my motherboard FRU?

Thanks

Tercio

Go to this page and enter the model # and serial:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... ookup.page

Once you get a list of the parts that your machine came with, look for "planar" or "planar card" which is IBM/Lenovo-speak for motherboard. Grab the FRU # and run it against HMM or post it in this thread.

BTW, Middleton's modded BIOS solves that problem on most, if not all, T61/p units.

Good luck.

Only the mobo with FRU 42W7866 is Penryn-designed for 14.1" WS.

By 14.1"WS you mean Wide Screen? It says there the planar is: MFG: 41W1487 FRU: 42W7775 and as I read on the forum, the 41W1489 doesn't work with penryn... So I don't know which number to trust. There is a post on this site saying Both 41W1489 and 41W1487 won't work with Penryn. Is this a hardware issue or a BIOS issue? Does the middelton BIOS fix this issue? I think the motherboard on this note has been replaced but it has no label on the FRU location...

Please Help

Buy a cheap Penryn - T8100 for instance - apply Middleton's BIOS with the old CPU installed, switch CPUs and see what happens...you won't know until you try.

So there is no possibility of making this work with a Penryn?

Thanks fella, anyway I think that the previous owner of this T61 changed the motherboard, so is there a software which could correctly identify this motherboard?

Thanks

That shouldn't make any difference...

Remove the palmrest and the ram and look at the top label under the ram chips. It should have the boards FRU number on it. If you want to take some photos, that might help too, but basically there should be no problem running a Penryn cpu if you use a modified bios.

Of course a Penryn board would be the preferred choice

There is no label over there, I don't know if it was peeled off but I finnaly tested it and it works with the Penryn!

Thanks you all!
