Help! Laptop Shuts-Down!

#1 Post by ParatoOptimal » Fri Jul 13, 2012 6:33 pm

3000 n100, 3GB RAM, dual booting 7 and Ubuntu
I run it LOT! ... at least 8hrs a day and ofter 24hrs running a job overnight.
It's battery is dead. I run it plugged-in but with the battery in.

It shut-down over night on it's own.
I rebooted and Ubuntu's check disk ran.
Shortly after booting into 7, it shut-down. This ocurred 3 or 4 times.
It also ocurred with the battery removed.
I haven't tried to boot into Ubuntu.

Are there any known power problems?
Is the motherboard delicate as to how one picks-up the laptop?
Is there a problem with the powere connector breaking from the motheroard.
Is there a problem with solder balls cracking or popping off?
Is there a problem with the motherboard cracking from stress when picking up the laptop?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I installed TPfan Control but it doesn't indicate that any fans are spinning.
Once, I thought it showed the card fan was active. What's the card fan?
Is there another fan control app I should be using?
Thanks

Does it matter if I have the dead laptop battery installed?
It could be nothing but it seems to run better without it but could just be my imagination.
Of course it looks better, has better balance and lays better in my lap with the batter installed.

Running a machine with a dead battery will eventually blow the charging circuit, so I'd advise against it.

Non-ThinkPad Lenovo machines use a different BIOS and do not support TPFC. Try using Notebook Hardware Control instead.

I installed one of the third party software for fan speed operation. Eventually, I made some custom settings in that application disturbing the vendors default one. Now it consistently getting shut down after every half an hour and blowing more hot air from it exhaust fan. What to do to restore it on normal?
