Proper steps for Flashing x61 Middleton BIOS and SSD Install

#1 Post by Fixed_Rider » Fri Oct 05, 2012 10:22 am

Hello ThinkPadders,

I am ready to upgrade my x61 (7674-WHL) to an SSD. I have two HD's that I use in this. Mainly a Win8 64bit for my iTunes stuff (640gb) and I have the original HD 80gb with XP Pro 32bit and Ubuntu dual booted.
My questions are;
1) Which OS should I update the BIOS?
2) what's the best way to update the bios?
3) Do I create a ISO on a flash drive?

I am planning on installing this drive Samsung 830 Series MZ-7PC128B/WW 128GB SATA 6.0Gb it's a good deal right now at Microcenter.
My end goal is to dual boot Win8 and Ubuntu 12.04 and slave my old 640gb in the docking station to house my iTunes library.

Thanks for the assistance :)

Thanks RBS.
Updated bios via Win XP using the GUI. Just needed to run in in Admin mode. The system info indicates bios version 2.4 yet the one I downloaded indicates it should be 2.22.
I'll pick up the SSD today and install Win8 and Ubuntu or Mint and report back.

I have an X61S and a SSD coming in the next day or two. I'm just reading about the middleton bios today, I can't find any locations to download this from. Can anyone provide a pointer please? or have a the bios for this X61s? (7666-AG6). TIA.
