Android 4.0 on X41t
Re: Android 4.0 on X41t
I have noticed that my X41t does run a bit warmer than my X41t with WinXP. Battery life seems a bit reduced as well. WinXP I can get 3 1/2+ hours on my reman extended battery, on the latest build of ICS I can get at most 3 hours on the same cells.

Re: Android 4.0 on X41t
Less run time on battery may be due to higher temps causing the fan to run.
I'm trying now to get ubuntu to install and have it show up as a boot option in grub and am hitting a wall. Have my 40gb drive partitioned and formatted. The ICS install is on it's own partition and running as it should but the install of ubuntu is hidden from the grub boot menu although it is installed on the drive on a separate partition. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Keith

Re: Android 4.0 on X41t
I have 2 x41Ts here. One is dual-boot with xp tablet and android. The other is ubuntu-11.10 and android.
Everything shows up in Grub.
I used Parted Magic to make the partitions and formatted them in NTSF. ubuntu works with NTSF now. I made the partitions active.
I made two flash drives, one with unetbootin and android and one with unetbootin and Ubuntu.
I booted from them and chose to install to hard disc and chose dev-2 for the partitions and it asked if I wanted to format the partitions. I already did but I let it format it anyway in NTSF. Both installed. At the end, it asked if I wanted to install grub, I said yes and then right after, it said it saw the other installations of xp on the one and ubuntu on the other and asked if I wanted to add a boot entry for both. I said yes and it did. Everything works.

As far as heat and battery life.
Go into settings, developer options, check CPU usage and it will put a little graph at the top right of the display.
It looks to me like it never clocks under 1.01. When I play drag racing on it, it clocks to 1.42.
IR thermometer at the exhaust shows 5 degrees C. hotter at idle than xp at idle. I haven't checked battery life yet.
On the one with Ubuntu, Android runs about 3 degrees hotter at idle.
Edit: I think I'm misinterpreting those numbers on the screen. I just saw it jump to 2.26. Anybody know what those numbers represent?

Re: Android 4.0 on X41t
I have a thinkpad X41 2525CH1, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 915, 2G RAM, internal 256M ram is set for graphics by bios.
60G HDD, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, no blueteeth.
I installed grub on usb stick, then unzip thinkpad_universal_4.0.3 to usb stick.
First time, I run android without installation to HDD, it works very well, wifi works.
Second time, I installed android to HDD on /dev/sda7, made a fake sdcard, install grub on hdd, then reboot.
It can boot linux kernel, splash android image. But blank screen finally, it can't start android setup screen.
Reboot again, the same result with android.
How could I find where it goes wrong ?

That is called the "CPU load average". Essentially the sum of the processes running on the system in a given interval (usually 5/10/15 minutes). Since our systems have single core CPUs, anything over 1.00 will mean the system performance will degrade.topmahof wrote:As far as heat and battery life.

Did you try reinstalling, perhaps on a lower numbered drive partition (dev/sda1 or sda2)?arnoldjoint wrote:I have a thinkpad X41 2525CH1, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 915, 2G RAM, internal 256M ram is set for graphics by bios.

Re: Android 4.0 on X41t
Just now, I reinstalled android (thinkpad_universal_4.0.3-20120307.iso) to /dev/sda1.
Seeing the same problem as before.
After booting android's linux kernel, it show me the black screen,
not the android splash image and the android setup page.
My computer is thinkpad x41 2525ch1

The new release is pretty fantastic, Just about everything works now! Except for some things crashing. Will I ever be able to use my SD-Card as an SD-Card from ICS? It didn't seem to quite work.

Re: Android 4.0 on X41t
I generally run my CPU at an undervolted voltage to save battery life and produce less heat. Is there a way to get this to have the CPU run at this voltage? Ive tested it extensively on windows, But I dont see a clear way to change it from android. Thats the only reason why im not using it as a secondary OS now.

Download the torrent file. You'll need Utorrent. It works, I just downloaded it again to see.
I'm using the 304 build in the second post. I haven't tried the 307 build. The 304 seems to work okay on the X41t.

Installed the latest version (7 March 2012) on a 1869-CNG and it runs nice albeit hot. Tried switching wifi off, taking brightness down to see if the fan stopped spinning to no avail. I would like to try the older versions to see if they work better in terms of heat but no one is seeding the torrents, so if you happen to have the .iso 's please help with seeding...

Yeh,
I stuck it on an x41 non-tablet and the experience was somewhat lacking. It works, just a little harder to get around. It works really well with a pen.
If you put it on something with a touchpad and try to navigate with the touchpad, you'll keep choosing apps because of your finger raising and lowering on the touchpad.

What are the possibilities of getting Android-x86 to work on a Thinkpad X23?
I've one lying around and have only recently gotten it to work with Windows 7 Home Basic reasonably well.

Hi konker,
Try running it live on a flash drive. It'll run slow, but at least you can see if your graphics and WIFI works. Those will be the biggest hurdles.

I did try running it live but all I get is a trailing dot after the initialization.
The GUI does not load up at all.
I've tried it on my T60 & it worked beautifully while on other non-Thinkpad computers, they were able to load though sluggish like you suggested.
What else can I do to try to get it to run on the X23?

I don't have a T23 right here handy, but I gave one to my neighbor. I'll go there tonight after work and try to run different versions off of a flash drive and see what it does.
I'll get back to you tonight. It kinda sounds like the hardware isn't going to be supported though.

What utility did you use to make your flash drive? I'm using unetbootin and it boots on every machine I have, but it doesn't show up in the boot order on the T23. Windows sees it okay though.

Thanks for taking the time to try it on the T23.
I understand that the X23 is not capable of booting from a USB flash drive.
I've remember booting it using the USB floppy drive that came with the device years ago.
I've a dock equipped with DVD-ROM so I boot it using a CD of the Live Android-x86.
But surprsingly, the X23 booted into my USB flash drive containing a custom Win7PE the other day but I've not been able to get it to boot into that USB flash drive again after that.
I've tried unetbootin in the past....maybe I'll give it a try again.

I tried using unetbootin and I could not get the X23 to boot into the Android-x86_Thinkpad with/without installation.
And I finally figured out that the X23 is capable of booting from a properly configured flash drive using the Hard Disk as the boot device.
At the boot device prompt, I opted for the Setup and after expanding (+) the Hard Disk, I can see my USB flash drive listed there. I shifted it up (F6) above the internal HDD, saved the configuration (F10) and rebooted into the flash drive.
