Before the cleanup...*HUGE* pictures...
Before the cleanup...*HUGE* pictures...
Oh dear...my wife has started the spring cleaning and pulled out all the ThinkPads that were hidden in our guest room...
Already facing The Punishment Chamber, I brought a couple from downstairs in order to take these pictures...
Now, let's go row-by-row
Top to bottom: A31p, T43 (14"), T61p (14"), T60 (14"), FrankenPad (15"), T61 (14")
Middle section:
Top to bottom: T42p, T60p, QXGA FrankenPad, T43p (Stunner In Sleeve), FrankenPad # 2, R60F - all of these are 15" units
The final row:
Top to bottom: T43pSF (15") , T61 (15.4"), T43p (15"), X200s, X220T, R500F, T60p (15")
Missing from the picture: T61p (14" - stashed away in the original box), A31p (awaiting planar swap) and I might have forgotten something...
Now, I *should* count my blessings - one of them being the fact that I'm married to someone who has been using ThinkPads longer than I have - but all the "extras" will be facing a summer sale...
Or else...

That is an amazing collection of thinkpads . It's also pretty remarkable how each looks so similar to the other, proving that the thinkpad design and style has remained largely the same over the years.
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, A31p, T23, 600X, 770

That is an awesome collection of machines you have.
But minus points with forum members here, and of course the whole geek collecting thing - do you use them?
If not, perhaps some members here could make use of them. But that's just me. I long ago stop hoarding computers and parts. A few years ago I began the first of many great purges and it felt wonderful. Now it's just me and my 3 machines: T410, D630, E6520. The E6520 wil be sold in a few months.
Don't get me wrong, your collection rocks. Just throwing my own personal view point out there.
Besides, you have a tough choice:
Wife or Thinkpads....
Choose wisely.
Both cost money.
Both complain when not happy.
Both can be improved with new parts.
Both can bring you joy.
Tough choice indeed.

Well, I thought I was done with hoarding when a bunch of ThinkPads got thrown in my lap by a twist of fate and I'm still recovering from that joyous event...If not, perhaps some members here could make use of them. My wife is well-used to the whole ThinkPads-in-and-out-of-the-house thing.
She's well aware of the fact that these black bento boxes have been helping with the bills for a decade now, from the day that she had to retire from her $80K/year (in 2004) job to become a full-time Mom. And she's not ungrateful.
She just sees - at least some of them - as funds that should be allocated in a certain way, let's say..

I do sleep with my T43pSF on the night table, though.
My wife has gone to the dark side in that respect and the iPad that I bought her on our anniversary several years ago is her weapon of choice for updating FB or reading news in bed...

Re: Before the cleanup...*HUGE* pictures...
So a couple of months have gone by...
Most of the ThinkPads shown in the picture are gone for good, including - believe it or not - my storied T43pSF.
OMG what is left, you may ask and rightfully so.
Well, let's see:
My wife is keeping her R500F until mid-January when a non-ThinkPad replacement will most likely be arriving.
The boys are hanging on to their R60F, and their sister to her T60.
As for silly old me...
The Memory Lane is occupied by A31p and a 15" T42p, both running Linux.
My daily driver is the custom 15.4" T61 that I've gotten extremely accustomed to. I'd say that it's the first non-IPS machine that I truly enjoy using in over a decade. Love both the resolution and the colours (thanks Aurora!) of its LG WUXGA screen, if not the viewing angles...
The QXGA monster is still around, waiting for the next owner. And there's a T410 on its way to me courtesy of a fellow forum member, which is going to become everyone's travel b***h once it arrives.
I've left Lenovo Forums - for good - after their driver removal nonsense, but I'm hanging on to TPF for dear life as long as it exists...
So yeah, one could say that the cleanup has taken place...

Lots of nice machines there, definitely. Let's hope the new owners get some pleasure and good use out of them.
I once signed up for Lenovo forums, but I have never posted there. In the glory T30/T4x/T6x days I was paying a lot of attention to what was new in the IBM / Lenovo world, but the attention seems to slowly turn more and more towards what used to be. And this forum is perfect for that.ajkula66 wrote:I've left Lenovo Forums - for good - after their driver removal nonsense, but I'm hanging on to TPF for dear life as long as it exists...

Well, six-and-a-half-years and 7.5K+ posts on the LF later, I'd tend to agree with you...In the glory T30/T4x/T6x days I was paying a lot of attention to what was new in the IBM / Lenovo world, but the attention seems to slowly turn more and more towards what used to be. Don't get me wrong - a bunch of great people can be found on LF, many "old time" ThinkPadders who participate here as well - and I do hold Mark Hopkins in the highest of regards for sticking with the thankless job that he has running the show over there, BUT I could simply not turn a blind eye to Lenovo's constant trashing of ThinkPad legacy (IMO) any longer...

Re: Before the cleanup...*HUGE* pictures...
I agree George.
I have an account there as well, and have made a few posts (mostly about my old Thinkpad Tablet). But the current view of Lenovo towards the community of long time users does not really seem to jive with what we want. But the masses have the volume, whereas we only have (somewhat) loud voices. Money wins that argument most of the time.
I do really hope though that somehow Lenovo gets it's act together. I love my T410 and feel its a very well put together machine and serves me very faithfully. I can only hope for a return to the glory days in terms of design and support. I'll carry a torch for as long as I can, but those days may only reside now in the annals of computer history.

Wow... that is an amazing collection!
I've started my own clearout as well, already seen 3 units go. I really should have taken a big family picture before doing so, too late now
