Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
I recently acquired a T61, popped in an SSD and have Debian 8 up and running, unfortunately the current screen is a rather pathetic 1024x768, I'm looking to upgrade it to an SXGA+ screen.
Where can I get one? I understand the model number for the original SXGA+ screens are 42T0369 and 42T0373, but are these the best choices? I am in Western Europe if it affects purchasing options.

Re: Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
Welcome to the Forum.
Here are a few more options for 14.1" 4:3 SXGA+ screens:
BOE-Hydis 13N7061
BOE-Hydis 42T0433
Samsung 13N7059
Samsung 42X4582
Samsung 42X4687
TMD 13N7063
Maybe some UK forum member(s) have/has one for sale?
A decent eBayer to try would be Bumblesale in the UK.

Personally I try to avoid Samsung, but YMMV.
If you are near D15, you could try this one: http://www.fixmylaptopscreen.ie/

Wow, thank you! D15's a bit far from me but might be worth the travel, is there anything extra that needs to be taken into account when swapping the screen or is it a fairly straightforward swap?RealBlackStuff wrote:Welcome to the Forum.

Click on the HMM link above and download the illustrated manual.
It's doable but can be a bit finicky.
Take your time!

Re: Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
So I managed to get a screen from Bumblesale today, the install went fine but I seem to have messed up some part of it, as upon booting the Thinkpad Logo is at the bottom of the screen and cut off. The rest of the boot seems to work fine however the screen is backlit but blank. What should I be looking at to fix this issue?

Re: Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
Exactly which screen did you buy/get (make and model)?
If it was listed as "compatible" you are probably in trouble, because it is not...

Re: Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
It's a Samsung LTN141P4-L02 they sent me. It's listed on the Thinkwiki as being found in T61s so I'm hoping I just have left a cable loose by mistake.RealBlackStuff wrote:Exactly which screen did you buy/get (make and model)?

EDIT: Just swapped back in the old panel without touching anything else, it works with the old panel. Now I have to go through the annoying process of getting a replacement or refund.

Re: Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
Just double checked the panel, FRU is 11P8348
Are my only options right now to get a replacement or refund or is there any alternative?

Re: Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
I'm afraid you got the wrong screen.
That 11P8348 is for the older IBM T40/T41/T42/T43 models.
It is missing the EDID chip, which tells the laptop what resolution to use.
Without it, the laptop cannot control the LCD-resolution, hence the wrong picture that you get.
Return it and insist on getting a screen with one of the part numbers I gave you above.

Re: Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
I'm having serious problems convincing these guys that the 11P8348 does not work, I'm being told ", this is listed as working with the T61 on thousands of sites. I strongly believe your problem is because you are upgrading which we do not support as this is proof it is rarely as simple as just changing a screen." and "I have checked the other 11P8348 we have on stock, the edid is present, i can highlight it for you if you need to physically see where it is"RealBlackStuff wrote:I'm afraid you got the wrong screen.

Don't know where he's getting these thousands of sites from.

Give them the link to the HMM manuals (see above) from ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, as well as from the
ThinkPad T60/p (1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2613, 2623, 2637) , as well as from the
ThinkPad T61,T61p 14.1 inch standard screen (Type 8889, 8890, 8891, 8892, 8893, 8894, 8895, 8896, 8897, 8898, 8899, 8900, 8938, and 8939)
You/they will find the 11P8348 screen ONLY in the T40 manual!
The 14.1" screens as mentioned in the T60 and T61 HMMs will all fit and work, but NOT those from the T40 series.
You can also give them this link: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=91013
Don't get fooled by what they say! It is the wrong screen, period!

Re: Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
Cheers! You've been great help with this. I've asked if they can replace it with one of the FRU you've listed (or a full refund), if they come back spouting more nonsense I'll link the HMMs and just get a full refund through eBay themselves (from what I've read, they will be made pay return shipping to since it fits in the "item was not as described" category).RealBlackStuff wrote:Give them the link to the HMM manuals (see above) from ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, as well as from the

Re: Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
My first post.
Late for the thread but wanted to add another option for LCD replacement.
I replaced my LCD on my T61p standard with a Samsung 92P6760. I am very happy with it when used with GPU setting (not windows10 settings). It had the EDID chip and was easy to transfer the data.
A cheap option and a nice screen. 45 USD on ebay, free shipping
T61p 8891_CTR 08/04/30
T8300 FX570

Re: Screen upgrade for 4:3 T61
My experience with Bumblesale was the same. They sent me a T40 panel and insisted that it was compatible with the T61. Avoid Bumblesale at any cost! A very unreliable seller!
As for screen options, the best SXGA+ for the 4:3 T61 is the QD14FL07. I have one and apart from the viewing angles, it is excellent. High contrast and sRGB color space coverage.

You can find them on eBay new for pretty cheap. You want to buy from a seller with a high rating (>= 99%) and who lists all the actual pictures and detailed info.

brchan is spot on, I bought mine on eBay. These things are ridiculously cheap, abundant and by far the best 14" SXGA+ you will find. Who said we can't have nice things in life? (at least once in a while)

Is this one suitable then? http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Dell-U3266-QD14F ... SwmfhX4965
It's been a while since I did some research on this, so I'm not sure if this particular one is compatible or if ones like this are better: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Quanta-QD14FL07- ... SwnbZYCeVh
